If it's Dwight do you tell Donnie Alexander to look around to make sure you have room for Young? Tough call bc of the link with Speedy and Willis!!! All these recruiting ties this year is crazy

If he really said elite, then it wouldnt be Williams

He's at the Army Game, I would consider that pretty elite

I think Donnie has earned his spot based on this year's play.

Having said that, I'm not quite sure how the numbers work.

We still have Jan 2nd to go, so the pieces to the puzzle aren't even all on the table yet (for sure for us, probably Staff too).

Feist appears to be MIA, Riley looks to have a ceiling of special teams

Feist is redshirting. It's not easy going from DE in high school to MLB in the SEC. Same goes for why Beckwith didn't get many snaps there.

And Riley was in his true freshman year. Way to jump the gun a player with several more years left.

I'll say Young. I know it's not a huge surprise he could go to LSU but for him to commit now would be a surprise.

You have that flipped... Feist was a MLB and now seems to be playing DE.

Jimmy on twitter said either today or yesterday that this was more of a bang bang.

Its not Williams. If it is then he will be uoset when we don't accept it. The only commitable he has is Oklahoma, of his finalists. Williams is not the pull to Jackson that people think. USC took the real guy that has pull with him in Jalen Greene

Feist played DE in high school. Like I wrote. It's not easy going from DE in high school to MLB in the SEC.

Frank Iheanacho
Malik McDowell
Kentavius Street
Dwight Williams
Kenny Young

That's the list of guys that LSU has pursued to a relevant extent at some point during this cycle who (a) are on the roster at that game, (b) aren't LSU commits and (c) aren't Travonte Valentine (since the OP specified not him).

Street is off of Geaux247's board of targets, so I assume he's out. I kinda think the "would be considered elite" thing is a fluff comment, anyone at the USAAA Game would be considered elite almost by default.

If I had to guess, it's Dwight Williams. Kenny Young just said in an interview a day or two ago that he was taking all his visits, I wouldn't assume that's someone who's about to commit speaking. I almost don't want Iheanacho; he's good, but we're loaded up on skill position guys as it is and could use more help in the defensive front seven. Could be McDowell too (would certainly qualify as a surprise) but I think he's all Michigan (whether UM or State).

Feist played all over the place in high school. Saw him at LB and DE. Was in a 3-4 system too. Was an EE, IIRC, and was at MLB his freshman year and was doing great there. Seemed to be the heir to the MLB spot. Then, during spring last year they moved him to DE because we didnt have a lot of DEs with the team at the moment because we just lost Mingo, Monty, and Lavar to the NFL. Seems like that switch was permanent.

I know it's just speculation but, could speedy's decision have anything to do with Franks?

didn't he barely play this year due to injury? I'm not saying I dont want him in the class, just not sure how accurate this is.

I dont even think Williams is worth taking to lock up Adoree, if it indeed had an effect, which is doubtful.

And re: our linebackers... we certainly have room for another.

People talk about the 2012 haul a lot, but that's a sunk cost. It doesn't matter that we signed six of them. If they haven't performed well enough, and we need help, then we'll bring in more and just have to deal with it or process people.

Ronnie Feist is a defensive end, Deion Jones and Lorenzo Phillips look like their ceiling is special teams, Trey Granier transferred, Lamar Louis is in the rotation and Kwon Alexander is starting. Of those six, we have two actually doing something.

2013? Kendell Beckwith moved to DE, Melvin Jones moved to FB, and Duke Riley looks like another special teams highlight reel guy.

Fact is that going into 2014 we only return three guys with any degree of meaningful experience at LB: D.J. Welter, Louis, and Alexander. We're already looking and hoping for Clifton Garrett to take Welter's job by midseason. If Dwight Williams wants in, we have room.

EDIT: Apparently Phillips transferred or got processed? If so then that makes the case more compelling since we only have five LBs total now for 2014 (Welter, Alexander, Louis, Jones, Riley).

Debos ceiling is not special teams... He will be a player for us next year.
