Not as good as him. We have plenty close but Smith is very special IMO.

There is so much top-shelf talent in LA we could not sign them all if we wanted. There will always be players who go to other (SEC) schools, find their place, and excel. if not Tangipahoa Parish then some other parish. And TV announcers will deride us for 'how we let that one get away.' 'Cause we can't sign'em all. Period.

That Bama has had success of recent with a HC with ties to LA doesn't help.

FTR, talent hasn't been a big problem for almost two decades.

Sorry buddy but Jerry Rice, Michael Irvin, Chris Carter and Randy Moss were special players from the day they stepped on the campus they went to. Smith would not play for 2 years if he came to LSU not sure he is going to play the first year at Bama.

This word gets used far too often on this board when talking about recruits. I'm not saying that the kid doesn't have the potential to be special. I just think that if someone like Netherly was a Louisiana kid and was interested in going out of state, he'd be "special", as well. Instead of a stud, beast..etc
Most of the guys that are deemed special on this board don't really amount to anything.

Eta: Gerald Willis, Speedy Noil and Tony Brown were all special.

LSU is loaded at WR and has a tremendous WR class coming in as well. So what if this kid goes elsewhere including Bama.

Just because some kid in Louisiana goes to Bama is no reason to worry. Louisiana produces far more kids than LSU can sign and look at Arkansas and A&M. They both have nemerous Louisiana players on their rosters. It is normal for Louisiana kids to go all over the country and they do. LSU can't sign them all.

To quote Charlie McClendon on recruiting, "It isn't the kid who doesn't sign with you who hurts you. It is the kid you sign who can't play".

Hootie was a "must have" and "special" too.

Oh excuse me Hootie is in his Junior year at Bama and plays on "special" teams.

All the sentiment from some on this board regarding "getting Monroe back" is nuts. LSU lost one player Cam Robinson to Bama from Monroe who mattered. LSU did not get Hootie but signed Jamal Adams. LSU definitely came out on the long end there.

LSU signed both Devin White and Rashard Lawrence in this last class. Both are from Monroe/NeLa.

Some on these boards are just chicken little types.

Smith and Hootie are so different as prospects.

Hootie made a living as an early bloomer who proved to be stiff once everyone else caught up. Many, many posters called him on this.

Smith is like watching water catch touchdowns. So fluid, a huge jumping radius.

No real disagreement, but for a few years there, you have to admit that a lot of the highly rates recruits were going to Bama for whatever reason.

Alexander will be enrolled at LSU this fall. You can bookmark this and troll me if I'm wrong, but he'll be on the football team for this fall.

Bama has gotten some guys in recent years at the north end of the parish, I really can't remember any of them that have turned out to be studs though

Also Donavaughn Campbell says hello from Ponchatoula...

I'm not worried.

He left high school coaching in 2001. So he has ties to guys in high school right now? That means he was coaching 2 and 3 year olds? Come on, wake up. The sky IS NOT falling.
