multiple people have said a big lure to A&M for speedy was that he was promised he wouldn't be drug tested at any point in his career
I DON'T BELIEVE THIS FOR ONE SECOND.

Drug testing - i'm sure all i am doing is spreading a rumor here, but multiple people that are close to recruiting (i hate the word "sources") but ... in this case, multiple people have said a big lure to A&M for speedy was that he was promised he wouldn't be drug tested at any point in his career

in my opinion, in this day in age, choosing your college is kind of like a 'fashion statement'..:
some kids follow the norm and go to the schools that people expect them to (home state's school, dad/uncle/grandpa's school, etc)...
some kids choose to be trendsetters and choose a place that may not jump out as a top choice, hoping that others will follow them
I don't know if this line of thinking makes sense to everyone and maybe I didn't explain it in detail enough, but I guess what I'm saying is that all of these recruits get the red carpet rolled out for them wherever they go.. The top notch schools across the country all have top notch facilites so it just boils down to the statement the kid wants to make by choosing the school that he does

This is pretty accurate. There is a reason that marketing companies target teenagers. They are very impressionable.
We think like adults and mostly think of adult reasons why recruits do what they do. But the truth is often more simplistic. Their friends think a school is cool so they think it is cool. It's not much different than HS fashion. What is cool is cool just because it is cool. And often it's retarded as frick

So....committing to aTm is "retarded as frick." I can work with that.

exactly
for some, it's all about the statement they make

Yeah, but isn't College Station and A&M majority white? I find it hard to believe that Sumlin being black outweighs the fact that the school and area are majority white, if indeed race played a part in the decision.
For that matter, The University of Alabama has a huge African American population. I don't know if that plays a role in decisions but if a fella was looking for a large black student body, Bama would be the place.

Why is the wasteland known as College Station attractive to anyone?

Willis spurns signing with teammates, holds his at independent training facility
That's not what happened. People aren't even sure if he is still enrolled at Karr. His mother and sister were at the signing, Gerald was MIA. I was told during the Super Bowl, that he hadn't been attending classes. He was suspend for something in early Jan. Most think he is done at Karr, and will take some online courses hoping to become eligible. He still doesn't have the ACT score either.
