Why? They had Franks, Patterson, and Haskins much higher on their board. Cam Cameron kept in contact with Scott throughout his senior season. Scott knew that he might eventually get the offer and LSU probably felt very confident through their talks with him and his family that Scott would be a Tiger if given the chance.

But you think a guy who had no other SEC offers is going to be the Savior? I'm not saying he's going to be bad at all, in fact I think he may be quite good. But acting like he was a must get from the beginning is being disingenuous.

I think it actually worked out for the best for LSU in the end. I'd take Scott today over Franks. Haskins and Patterson will be better than both though.

We had about 3-5 guys last year that were "Bama locks" this time of year that ended up signing with us

People that act like they have any earthy idea what a kid will do in a year are fooling themselves

I definitely remember early on the heavy concern with Lawrence, and well as White with Alabama.

I am talking way early on.. as it went further along that faded.

Again, Smith doesn't fall into this group. We aren't fighting Alabama for a commitment as much as we are fighting his HANDLER working at Bama for the commitment. Literally right after Sam Petitto was let go at UGA during the Richt changeover Smith decommitted from UGA. Not long after Petitto was hired at Alabama, Alabama was his clear cut favorite.

Smith tweeted out his abrupt de-commitment from UGA on Thursday afternoon shortly after news broke about Petitto’s hire as an assistant director of player personnel at Alabama.

Sam Pettito isn't his handler.

It's the equivalent, he's the guy Smith is following around. No, Petitto isn't the typical "I go with him and "Advise him" on every visit he makes" handler as Petitto is employed by a school.

Their connection is very very strong though, way stronger than anyone else's and so far Smith has followed Petitto every step of the way. From committing to UGA because he worked at UGA, to decommitting from UGA within the hour of him leaving UGA to determining Alabama is a clear favorite not long after he ends up at Bama. If Petitto wound up at Tennessee over Alabama, we'd be "fighting" Tennessee, not Alabama.

According to a lot of people Rashard Lawrence was all Bama. I do believe that Smith is a harder pull than Lawrence, but not impossible.

So was Ruben Randle. And Tony brown was all LSU. It happens.

There is no way they knew they had Scott, come on man. The first thing they should have done was offer him earlier in that recruiting year. At one point it seemed like they were trying for 2 QBs so it made even less sense to not go for him early on.

Cameron was checking on Scott throughout his senior season. I'm sure they felt like they could get him if they made him a priority.

Did you REALLY think we'd get two of those guys? Keeping in contact doesn't mean squat. Scott could have easly had a change of heart like a lot of other guys do. Saying you have a 17-18 year old kid in the bag because you "keep in contact" is naive at best. Again, it makes no sense not to offer Scott earlier.

Who said anything about being a savior? Competent, yes. He has the physical talent and the IQ. I mean shite man, offering or not offering a guy based on what other schools do is retarded. I never understand people on this board caring so much about that.

Didn't stop Pat Mahomes as a true sophomore, from lighting our asses up with 2 star and 3 star recruits. Mahomes had 3 offers despite being a 3 star recruit and a top 400 composite player. His best seemed to be Texas Tech or Oklahoma St, depending on which of Rivals or 247 is most accurate.

We offered Prescott initially as not a QB and Miss St offered him as a QB and he committed there. I wasn't around back then, but lowly SEC Miss St was the only "big" school to give him a shot at QB. The guy had exactly 2 power 5 offers, one was initially as a QB, the other wasn't. He stuck with Miss St even after we changed his offer to a QB prospect. Wonder if people thought we had him in the bag when we wanted, or even cared? Prescott went on to light us up two years in a row with a bunch of leftover SEC Country recruits and Fred Ross.

I love Scott's game, but I also love the potential of Franks in his 3rd year in a system. With Dameyune Craig learning under Jimbo, he could have improved Franks game greatly in two years. He could have been a beast redshirt sophomore in 2018 with four 6'4+ targets in Ferguson, Davis, Sullivan, and Anderson, five 6'3 targets if Coxie ever makes it.

I say we lucked out on actually having a QB in this 2016 class. We are one of the last schools that needs to think we have any QB in the bag.

No, but they REALLY wanted to get one of them and thought they would be able to do so.

You're right. I'm sure during a whole year of talks, Cam Cameron never asked Scott if he would commit if given an offer. He was probably totally in the dark.

LSU offered him late and he signed there. It literally made no difference.
