This is just absolutely, unequivocally, false. You have to understand that athletics are something that Ivy League schools just have. They don’t try to build them. That’s why they don’t offer any athletic money. Someone would have likely been on the hook for 100k for him to go to Harvard and play football. Really, it all depends on his family income, and it doesn’t take much to cut off a lot of aid. For example, if you have zero other income other than a paycheck (stocks, etc), and you make 150k as a family in a year, the cost is better than 20k per year. And that doesn’t account for trips up there, trips home, etc.
