You probably won't know the answer to this question until NSD is over, but I would suspect this means they believe they may have other linebackers they have targeted.

But it goes both ways.

Thats my thing, but the story that the media will never publish are the Erick Fowlers and Toshiro Davis of the world. Flip at the last minute and frick the team. This is the only side of story that gets any traction. I feel bad for the kid, but this is just part of it.

They were not sure if they would get rice. Rice is a E.E., It's why they offered Reid, in case they did not get Rice. If Rice called and told them he was out on Monday, Reid would have had a committable e.e. offer. Since Rice said he was in, the e.e. offer did not happen. They still wanted Reid, just couldn't take him as a e.e.

Numbers game? Grades? A different silent commitment? Not a good fit? Who knows?

This seems the most plausible of the theories. Rice is the better fit in a position of greatest need. If we took Rice over Reed, then I think the staff made the right call. It looks strange at the time, since Rice seemed like a long shot, but it makes a lot more sense in hindsight.

He needs to get over the damn sour grapes. UT wanted him and showed him the love. Be greatful for what you have, rather than complaining about what you didn't get. It makes his chosen school look like a clear second choice with the way he's acting out over it.

This happens every year at every school. Look at Georgia and Toneil Carter. He had been committed to them for almost his entire senior year. Chubb and Sony Michel announce they were coming back for their senior year, and they had to tell him they didn't have room for him to EE. He ended up at Texas.

I doubt this is true. The only option Reid had or would have had was Tennessee.

In the kids own words - on his only visit to Florida State - FSU's Jimbo Fisher told him they would offer. The kid told a recruiting service that he had an offer from FSU and the reporter checked and told Reid that a Seminoles’ staff member told the recruiting site that he didn’t have an offer. “So then I tried to call Jay Graham (his main recruiter at FSU), and he wouldn’t pick up the phone,”

That was after one visit to the FSU campus. NCST and Colorado wouldn't even have him in for initial visits.

I don't think he would have ever stepped foot on the LSU campus to play football unless he was wearing another team's uniform.

This link was in the first post of this thread and is pretty alarming when it comes to this kid. The really scary thing is that he was the one being interviewed for the article.
https://www.seccountry.com/tennessee/shanon-reid-deep-story

He went to FSU and Jimbo said he would offer. Reid never got the offer and FSU never answered another phone call from him.

He went to visit Michigan for the Wisconsin game. Him and his family were told Harbaugh was in a meeting and would not be able to meet with them during the visit. WTF??? Can't step out for five minutes to say Hi to a recruit on an official visit?

He said he took a test that Michigan requested - his words "“We sent it in, but then they never said anything after that. It had to be something with Coach Harbaugh, because Coach (Don) Brown loved me.”"

Was going to visit North Carolina State and Colorado, but both schools fell through with their pledges to bring him in. NCST and Colorado??? Wouldn't even have him in for a visit? Are they so loaded that both schools turned down a visit.

After reading the article and his quotes about what happened with the schools who recruited him, I have no doubt he would never have played at LSU. They probably would have saved the scholarship for next year before signing Reid.

Without taking anything away from the post by Tiger Ree (which is one of the better posts on here ever), it makes me wonder about the recruiting coordinator duties.
Is Da Coach O still trying to handle these duties after becoming HC?

Remember We have a ton of LB's on the roster now. I know a couple can turn into ILB. Who knows if they want a similar sized ILB as Devin White, we could use Layton Garrett. I don't know his progress but it will be interesting.

The HC makes the final call but the recruiting coordinator should be on top of how many spots they have and when.

Kids an undersized 3-Star LB from Fla. who has no offer from Bama, Auburn, Florida, FSU, Miami, etc. He's more suited for Knoxville imo.

LSU's recruiting coordinator is Dameyune Craig. I don't know if he has held the position before, so O may be doing the job while giving DC some on-the-job training.

Coach O is probably also still recruiting the guys who he had built relationships with while being the D-line coach.

I looked it up yesterday and the recruiting coordinator position involves a lot. He is responsible for recruiting his area, compliance issues (so the school doesn't commit violations), arranges travel plans for visiting recruits, evaluation of their transcripts to make sure they will be eligible, among many other duties.

In 2008, Morehead State listed a job opening for a recruiting coordinator/special teams/defensive line assistant coach. The job requirements were jaw-dropping. Here are the requirements for just the recruiting coordinator aspect of the open position.

Establishes staff recruiting areas and responsibilities.

Compiles recruiting list from coaches, service, etc.

Compiles May recruiting list and transfer information to MSU senior recruiting in the fall.

Arranges recruiting visits for home games.

Creates gameday brochure and mail to prospective recruits.

Organizes game day visit itineraries with staff.

Completes all forms and letters in regards to visits, tickets, etc. with compliance/athletic staff.

Tracks NCAA Clearinghouse list as it pertains to initial eligibility.

Compiles and submits pass list for recruiting days.

Processes proper paper work for official visits w/staff.

Maintains mailing list and check-list on recruits.

Schedules recruiting programs and rooms on campus.

Secures lodging for prospective student athletes on official visits.

Keep Head Coach up to date on all recruiting matters.

Maintains up-to-date records on all incoming freshmen.

Tracks admissions status for incoming freshmen/transfers.

Tracks housing status for incoming freshmen/transfers.

Keeps staff informed of school calendar, activities, events, recruiting calendar and period, test dates, etc. on monthly basis.

Recruits in state area by travel, phone and letter.

Recruits out of state area by travel, phone and letter.

Maintains recruiting Phone call log and collects from staff.

quote:

Schools have gotten in hot water with the NCAA over various recruiting violations, and many of the violations committed by schools were due to erroneous paperwork, phone logs not being updated or improper contact with a recruit.

I can see why coaches wouldn't like the recruiting aspect of college football.
