He changed his name right before he got to campus. Had something to do with his dad, or step dad.

He was verbaly committed to Miami then backed off and picked us late. If I remember right he said after he committed to Miami they hardly ever spoke to him. He felt like they had lost intrest in him. We can thank Miami for getting PP7 because if they had acted right he would have went there.

pretty much every national recruit, especially those that go out of state, get something (or their families do)

CFB recruiting is dirty

CBB recruiting is like a meat market

Oh i agree. But there are legal ways or "loop holes", that a school cant get in trouble with.

Best example i can remember is from VA Tech. So these kids are coming from low income families. They already qualify for assisted living benefits, but also receive money from the school for room and board. Money can come into players hands a lot of diff ways that is not breaking the rules. So yes every college player recieves some sort of money. Even schools like UL Lafayette pay their players.

But then again i thought it was so easy to recruit at LSU, it basically recruits for itself right? so why would we have to pay a player, give parents a house, use poker chips or hwat have you? Especially after we had just won our 2nd BCS championship?

playing time

He would have gotten that at any SEC school. In fact he'd have started sooner at most of the other schools in the conference. I personally think he should have played more early in his freshman season.

Yup...

He chose us over 3 Florida schools, USC pre-sanctions, Texas etc.

He could have been a starter on the Florida team that won it all.

But I think every competitive school does it... you "make arrangements." Or have people that will do it for you...

I was shocked when I heard Patrick Johnson was gonna be wearing P&G.

Some of the chicken littles on here need to remember what a huge pull he was out of Florida.

LSU was coming off a NC. He may have got something, but he didn't choose LSU bc he was paid. If LSU did, so were the others and then it comes down to personal preference

So what, we just out bid UF and FSU? I find that highly unlikely. Now he may not have even considered us if it were not for money, but money alone couldnt have been the only reason he came here.

Becuase FSU and UF get guys from out of state so by this logic they would have to pay for those players. Why wouldnt they pay for the best player in the state?

Once upon a time those "arrangements" you allude to were much more commonplace than they are now. The Gestapo, err, Nc2a, is more active than ever and relentless when they get a sniff of a violation. It is a mistake to assume that every high-profile out-of-state get has an "arrangement" fwiw.

He liked what LSU had to offer and he has also been quoted of saying he wanted to go to LSU to play against the best and at the time it was Tebow.

And Florida was just 2 years removed and much more poised to make another run (and did and won it).

They also had just as much opportunity (there was an article from early in the process that year where PP said Meyer told him he could come in and start from day 1).

I don't think $$ is the only reason he came here... (Earl Lane did work)... but I do think it played a part in it.

By that logic LSU only gets a kid like Jernigan by out bidding the FL schools
