shite yeah he was, IMO. But OU got caught and made Bomar the goat.
i mean we did just have an assistant coach housing a player illegally like 2 years ago
this kind of stuff could NEVER happen at LSU

giving a player incentives to come to a school and providing him improper benefits (a place to live) while he was was waiting to be cleared (that is the story, right?) by the NCAA are two entirely different things though.
you're talking cam newton vs akiem hicks (and look at how miles handled it).

Setting up him with a cush apparent that LSU is paying for is different than directly giving a player cash?
Not really...

Hicks was a temp thing while he was waiting to be cleared by the NCAA, he would have been paying that on his own dime. It sucks that he had his housing paid for, but if the NCAA didn't drag their feet, it never would have happened.
My point is that paying for his apartment for a short period of time and using monetary incentives to lure a player to a school are entirely different. Giving him rent for an apartment while he waited on the NCAA clearinghouse is not the same as buying a player. Now if that housing was used to lure a player in, which is what you are suggesting, we would get the hammer.
Look at how Miles handled it too. It's pretty obvious that he doesn't tolerate it.

So why didn't we outbid Ole Miss for CJ Johnson?
LSU football makes WAAAY more money than Ole Miss football.
Back in the 90s, players got perks. $100 handshakes. Comped meals. "Deals" on leased cars. Not aware of anyone getting tens of thousands of dollars or hundreds of thousands. Maybe it's just inflation!

I was told that it has always been other schools boosters that do it... meaning an Alabama booster hooks up the LSU kid while the LSU booster hooks up the LSU kid. Once on campus, obviously. No pointing fingers, I guess.

Didn't Peterson's parents move to BR for his freshman year and then move back to Fla?
If this is the case, I'm sure Mr. and/or Mrs. Peterson were able to find excellent, high-paying jobs during their abbreviated stay in LA.

I'm not reading through 72 posts because this is easily answered...he really liked Miles. I know some people may not believe that but that is fact.
He briefly eliminated us from his recruitment because he, like ESPN and most of the country, thought Miles was going to Michigan. Miles visited PP7 and assured him that he was staying at LSU. When he did so, PP7 said he was sold on Miles as a man of integrity who was upfront, honest, and a players coach.
PP7 said right after he committed to LSU at the all-american bowl game that he really did not have a high opinion of college coaches before he met Miles.

It was all about John "Doc" Holiday. When Doc left FL to go to WV, Patrick Johnson (now Peterson) started looking at other options. He visited LSU late, liked Leslie and the rest is history. /thread.
So LSU set his family up in BR, big deal, happens all the time.
Also, Pompano is a rough area, he needed a change of scenery.

Okay, so why, in your opinion, with all things being equal between two schools (UF and LSU), would a kid from Miami, Fl. chose to come to Baton Rouge?
A kid growing up in Miami probably wasn't a Florida (Meyer) fan, either.
