Due to lack of signing LBs:

Move Michael Patterson (6'3 220) and Lewis Neal (6'1 238) to LBer along with Cory Thompson (6'2 212),and Deondre Clark (6'2 238). They all have good LBer size.

I think this would be a good move if we move to a 3-4 defense. It would be exciting to see us move in that direction.

The 3-4 would allow us to play with an extra Lber/SS type of guy who can pass rush or drop in coverage. I think we will be deep at the DL position in 2015 and looking forward. That kind of depth is perfect for the 3-4.

In 2015 we will have at least 6 good DLmen that can really play. So, why not go to the 3-4 and get after some people?

We don't need 4 LB's on the field right now. All four may want to leave instead of 3.

Those guys could all play as a rush backer, but as for covering RBs, getting their zone coverages down, rerouting tight ends and so on they wouldn't be adequate. Also with our current D Line we don't have the players that can take on blocks to free up our backers. Valentine could play Nose Tackle and that's about it. Some people say Godchaux could play end in a 3-4 because of his size, but he's not that type of player. Godchaux isn't a filler. He has great strength, he's agile and has low leverage, but he's a gap shooter. He needs to be paired with a big body that can push the pocket and leave him in one on one situations that he dominates . Now instead of an actual 3-4 I'm sure Steele will bring back stand up DEs in our defesne and bring in a 4-2-5 package or two like Bama did. Utilizing our athleticism and speed. Before anyone says anything about a damn Mustang package . The Mustang was a weak arse 3-2-6 just for spreads. The 4-2-5 is built around pursuit and pressure and is equally strong in pass and run defense

4-3 Base

SDE: Bower
WDE: Teuhema
DT: Valentine, Godchaux
MLB: Beckwith
SLB: Garrett
WLB: Deion
CB: White, Thomas
FS: Mills
SS: Adams

4-2-5

SDE: Bower
WDE: Clark
DT: Lacoture, Godchaux
SLB: Beckwith
WLB: Deion
Spur: Adams
Bandit: Thomas
CB: White, Toliver
FS: Mills

Familiarize yourself with Keion Joyner and Michael Divinity for 2016. I'm guessing Devin White could be lb or rb.

The only possibility I see is Thompson. The other 3 are DEs and will stay there IMO. Neal and Clark will stay there 100%.

I think Thompson could move as well. 6'2 212 will probably get to about 6'2 220. Would be the best move for his career as well.

If we go 3-4 next year we are fricked. We don't have the personnel for it no matter how many people try to convince themselves and others we do.

1st and foremost, we don't have the LBs to play it. Sure we have guys that could fill out the starting 4 but we would have no depth and would basically eliminate the actual depth we do have at LB. Alexander and Jones definitely aren't playing a 3-4 and Louis is a question mark. So Beckwith, Garrett and Feist as the 3 ILBs for the entire season. Not gonna work out well.

Secondly, our OLB candidates can rush the passer but would get killed in space. That would be a problem against spread teams. Bower, Neal, Patterson and Teuhema can all play OLB but none are guys you want dropping into coverage more than situationally. Basically we would have about 5-6 jack LBs that are good at 1 skill.

Third, we don't have a NG. Sure Valentine can do it but it would take away his value as a player. He doesn't have the mindset of a NG. He's an attacking DT and taking away his aggressiveness would severely limit his ability. The good 3-4 NGs know and cherish their role as pure space eater. They aren't aggressive and don't pretend to be. They are just huge, strong bulls that take up as many blockers and as much space as they can.

Moving Voorhies and Thompson to LB would be useless in a 3-4. Neither are big or strong enough for it. If the Voorhies talk is true it should end all speculation of a 3-4. Him playing LB necessitates a 4 man front. He needs space to play LB and wouldn't have it in a 3-4

If we have good linemen why not stay in the 4-3 instead of reinventing the wheel. Anyway I like real man football, which is the 4-3, instead of those gimmick defenses.
