Per capita, Louisiana has the most fertile recruiting grounds-not even close.

Article by the Advocate. It's a good read. If we lock down the state, we're always in it.
Louisiana has 21 players rated four or five stars in 247Sports’ composite rankings. No other state produced more highly rated recruits (four or five stars) compared to state population.
There are 4.49 highly rated prospects for every 500,000 males in Louisiana this year, leading the nation — by a wide margin.
The number is double the amount of Florida, where there are 2.26 four- and five-star players for every 500,000 males. Texas, known nationally as the jewel of high school football talent, averages just 1.89 highly rated prospects for every 500,000 men.
Louisiana’s stiffest competition this year comes from Mississippi (3.67 for every 500,000) and Georgia (2.54). A whopping 17 states don’t have a single four- or five-star player this year, and two of those states — New York and Massachusetts — have a bigger population than Louisiana’s 4.67 million.

Isn't this the reason Nick Saban took the LSU job in 2000?

i'm not saying he's the next Brees or Wilson, but the dude gotta have something to be voted the best player in the state that produces the most D1 talent...

TX, FL and CA are hardly in LA's talent density rear view mirror.
Instead of dividing by 500,000 males, try it with actual number of h.s. football players--which makes more sense to me. The relative ratios between the states are similar.
This will be the 17th year in a row with a Super Bowl game starter (1 or more...some years 5 - 6) that has come from LA between New Orleans and Lafayette. Just think if the whole state was included...prolly close to twice as many consecutive years.

That's nice and all, but other states still have way more talent because of population. Teams still have to fill their class with needs and LSU might not be able to find all their needs out of those 21. It's just as imperative LSU keeps building its brand out of state as well.

I'm as pro Louisiana as you can get but this is correct. You can't just go total number of males in a state like Florida or California with so many retirees and transplant males. There ares several counties in SFLA especially that produce talent at a very equivalent rate. Hell all Miami had to do in the 80s and 90s was recruit their backyard.

The talent in Louisiana has always been good but it has been consistently great for about 3-4 years now. Plenty of 4 and 5 stars coming out consistently. Not to mention LSU is doing a good job of keeping the big ones here.

Would you rather have access to 10 players in a population of 50, or would you rather have access to 100 players in a population 1000?

Of course.
But, upon comparison, if you close your eyes and randomly point in LA you have more than twice the chance of finding Div 1 talent in LA as the heavy populated states.
When you divide by the 10,000 hs players (and 3,000 or so hs seniors only), "twice the chance" not only holds up but has held up for many years.
MS and GA can hang w/LA. Pockets of plenty of areas can, too (inside TX, FL and CA).

This right here. LSU is in prime position from the start of these guys high school career because they are the only football power house in the state. Alabama has Auburn and Alabama. Georgia has Georgia and Tech not to mention so close to Alabama. FL is filled with major programs and so is TX.
LSU is in the advantageous position to where they are the solo big dog anymore. Tulane is a non factor now in terms of threatening their recruiting for top prospects.

spot on. it's one reason why team recruiting ratings should be analyzed more carefully. LSU signs a ton of highly rated athletes at the skill positions (sans QB) but it takes great OL, DL and LB to win championships.

5 teams splitting 100 guys is still 20/team vs 10 in the example above.
Clearly being the only team in small but talent rich state is a HUGE advantage but it is subject to boom/bust type years and we do have to recruit oos to fill out the team.

I don't care how tall he is, if he puts up over 5,000 yards in 5A in Louisiana sign him up!

The state of Louisiana is putting out great athletes all the time, and has been doing so for a while.
It's time LSU should be THE primary beneficiary of all of this talent. Keep Bama and Sabin's grubby little evil hands the heck out of here for good!!
Orgeron is the man to do just that, case in point the ridiculous recruiting class we are going to end up with in 2016, and hopefully in every year going forward.
