Wouldn't both Taz and this kid play the 3? Meaning, he would sub in for Taz?

we can move this kid to the 2 if needed. He would have to battle with Dotson for the starting spot.

GTech may not have a scholarship for him if a player they have that entered the draft decides to return to school there. That is something to pay attention to.

If Taz comes back, he will mostly play the 3, however he will still play some 4 depending on matchups and during substitutions to give people breaks. In those situations, Noel would be a great option.

If we land Noel and keep Taz, Trent should put the best players on the court. Taz would have to move to the 4 to do that IMO.

Green- 5
Taz- 4
Johnson-3
Dotson- 2
Spencer-1

I agree, however, Taz will only return if he is assured the 3, because that is his NBA position (if he has one).

If Trent signs Noel, I wouldn't agree to that if I was him. He'll play the 3 and 4 if he comes back, but the starting lineup he should start at the 4.

Noel stated he wants to play the 1-3... Versitily is one of his strong suits.

Yeah...thats what I'm saying. Put Noel at the 3, and move Taz to the 4. With subs coming in and out, Taz can play the 3 when Noel isn't on the court.

I think having Noel at the 3 and Taz at the 4 would make more sense, but I'm pretty sure TJ has said that if Taz comes back he will be playing the 3...But I'm sure he would rotate in at the 4 sometimes too

I don't think our selling point to Taz of playing the 3 to increase his stock should be undermined because we might sign another player. I have the utmost trust in TJ being as honest as anyone with Taz about positions so I have no doubt that Taz coming back, signing Noel, and then Taz playing 4 would have been discussed prior to Taz making an NBA decision.

And while it might be best for the "team", we can't sell our best player something and then back out of that promise. Taz deserves better than that for what he has given to this program already.

I'm sure it will be worked out and having Noel and Taz here would be a nice problem to be in.

I agree, but this is definitely a premature argument. Also, I doubt a veteran like Taz would base his decisions on the signing of a freshman.

I think Noel Johnson is a very talented player that would increase LSU's depth at several positions.

Perhaps a more provacative question would be: If Taz returns and we sign Noel, does that give us enough depth to redshirt Eddie Ludwig?

I have always maintained that Ludwig could use a redshirt year, but that it didn't appear that we would have enough depth to allow that. Would this change things?

He could probably use a redshirt year, but let's say we do very well in 2010 and sign the guys, or majority of, the guys we targeted, Ludwig might not see the time on the court to improve as much as he might need to in year two following a redshirt. In this day and age, I think you have to give the guy some minutes if he justifies enough talent to be out there. And I know he's more basketball savvy than Graham was, just not the same level of athlete. But smarter and a better shooter. I think we could even use him a little at 4 this year with Taz at 3. One thing that we have next year, regardless of Taz's decision, is some versatility that I'm sure TJ will play around with.

Agreed.

I think that size-wise Ludwig is a 4, but skill-wise he is a 3. Next year, I see him subbing in for both Storm and Taz, or - gasp - starting at the 3 if Taz is gone.

starting at the 3

With Taz gone, I think he would get a lot of playing time but I think him starting immediately wouldn't happen. Remember Farrer starting a good bit of games in the 07-08 season so even though he sucks he has been good defensively at times and I think he would start at the 3 while Ludwig would get a lot of playing time off the bench at the 3 and 4 IMO.

Possible.

There are so many scenarios out there with the status of Taz, Noel Johnson and even Garrett Green, to a certain extent, still unknown.

While I certainly hope that Taz returns, if he doesn't that should actually help for the following year as playing time would significantly increase for several freshmen and sophomores.

True, but that would be basically the only positive thing to come out of next season if Taz goes haha

At this point Scout is just going off of his visits in terms of interest. If he visits LSU, they'll throw us up there too.
