Davenport still has plenty of time to make a name for himself as an OL
This.
If anyone watched him closely during the spring game saw he has pass blocking down VERY well. Just needs to develop a mean streak for run-blocking and I could see him replacing Hurst on the right side in 2 years.

You mean Yancy the late night club tweeter?
No I was referring to Steve Robertson he evaluates Mississippi HS players for Scout.com
Yancy only follows recruiting for Ole Miss.

Like others I just watched his video and he'll make a GREAT OT. He's way to high and not near explosive enough to play DT.

Some people here are really out of line with their comments about Davenport. He is very much liked by his teammates. He works very hard at practice from everyone I have spoken, too
I am not disrespecting Davenport at all. i loved him coming out of high school. I have big expectations for him. But the truth is that he was a top 50 prospect in the nation. played in all american games and was predicted to be an elite DT.He may make a great OT one day but he was recruited at DT and that didn't work out.
Joseph Barksdale followed the similar path but i thin kMiles Brought Barksdale in for OL. He never played DT at all.

Anyone that saw him play in high school knew he wasn't an elite DT.
Every major site and publication disagrees with you. He was highly rated.

James is the #1 DT on our board right now so i'd hope he's good.I personally like him much better than Quay Evans. For some reason i see bust all over Evans.

BAMA is the top competitor beause they run a 3-4 and he'd be great at nose tackle

I think we have a good chance to land him , but Saban will turn up the heat.

LSU is the team to beat ATM. Bama is a very close second.

perfect fit for him?

Ever heard of MT. Cody? Bama wants another house like him. James would be a perfect fit for that
3-4 scheme. They are going to give us the most competition. Whether we are #1 or #2 on his list.

question mark was accidental. Actually was agreeing with you.

Nick James looks as good if not better than any DT'we have. Look at his video. Happy Easter.

Playing time could be an issue for him. Jesse Williams will still be at Alabama and Brandon Ivory has progressed faster than expected. Only NG Josh Chapman will leave after the 2011 season. Although with Brandon Moore suspended for the spring, and his future in doubt, depth could become a concern if he doesn't return.

Where would he be at on bama's board as far as DT's they want, Cap?

As a pure NG, I would think he's near the top. However, there's been more talk of Eddie Goldman and Jonathan Taylor lately. Both have recently visited Tuscaloosa. I would think that James gets an offer pretty soon though.

Not trying to rag against a Bama prospect, but I have yet to see why Goldman is rated so highly. He is by every recruiting service, so maybe it's just me, but his film just doesn't impress me

I haven't seen any film.
Was surprised to hear all of the services have him ranked highly, not because of any notions I have about him but I just read where his hs coach won't let him go to combines.
Sounds like this coach really cares about the kid but a few more of these could shut down a lot of recruiting boards
LINK
quote:
You wouldn’t think that a 6-foot-4, 305-pound 17-year-old needs protection. There’s a lot, though, that Friendship Collegiate football coach Aazaar Abdul-Rahim doesn’t want star recruit Eddie Goldman to have to endure over the next nine months until he chooses a college.
"He doesn’t need to talk to 50 coaches every day because they would do that,” Abdul-Rahim said. “I’ll be the bad guy. I’ll be the one who keeps him away from that. I don’t want the bad side of college football to taint his experience, because it’s out there, especially for a kid like him.”
Abdul-Rahim said he also keeps Goldman away from another ubiquitous part of football recruiting – combines. That’s because he knows Goldman has nothing to gain from going to a combine.
“Combines want you to come,” Abdul-Rahim said. “That’s how they get other people to come, but getting big-time recruits to come. Then, everyone thinks they can make a name for themself going up against big-time recruits. He has nothing to gain. The only place I’m taking him to is a college, not any combines.
“He doesn’t have to do anything. He just has to figure out where he wants to play college football.”
Sounds like he is really interested in the SEC:
quote:
Along with Friendship assistant Mike Hunter, Abdul-Rahim and Goldman visited five premier programs last week: Auburn, Alabama, Florida, Florida State and Georgia.
His coach really has some kid of chip on his shoulder when it comes to combines;
quote:
“You watch him go on these visits, hear about how great [a player] people think he is, and it’s a lot to handle,” Abdul-Rahim said. “He’s the perfect kid for this. He’s extremely humble and he’s not in awe of it all.”
In case any college coach wants to see Goldman in action, though, Abdul-Rahim is opening Friendship’s spring practice to them during the final two weeks of May.
“That’s our form of a combine.” Abdul-Rahim said.
Sounds a little like Trevon Randle's coach.

Guys like him do not need to go to combines really..... If you are a unknown player they do you some good, if you are well known then what is the point, really...
