Why did a five star go to WKU? I don't even remember hearing about this kid.

his godfather was there. He was gonna play one year and then straight to the league.

I love Mitch, but his best chance to shine was at WKU. Overseas he'll fall out of the public eye except to those that seek him out. If he's gonna go overseas he might as well ask to join the G League

How old is he? If they let him into the d league, they will be opening pandora's box of kids coming straight out of high school.

Which they should do anyway.

The NBA scouts Europe AND high school very hard. They would not only know every move this kid made, but would have scouts at every game if he played in Europe.

Depending on whether or not he even wants a college experience, Europe is not a bad call in his situation.

The downside of Europe is if he isn’t very good over there or good enough to be drafted (unlikely), he can never come back to college on scholarship and would be screwed.

Going to Europe to play pro ball for an 18, 19 year old kid is a hard sell. To many negatives that outweigh the positives, he would be better off sitting out that year and playing ball at LSU. I would love to see that happen, but with the NBA right there offering the temptation of millions, it's gon be a hard decision for him. I think college ball though would do him good for a season or two to improve his game.

Really depends on him and his family.

If I had that opportunity at 18 I would've been on the plane before the ink was dry

But my family could've paid for my college if pro ball didn't work out and I love to travel and don't get homesick. Just depends.

The problem with going to Europe is he absolutely has to find the exact right situation.

European coaches are absolutely notorious for not playing young Americans or young Euros they know are going to the NBA. They would rather play 37 year old Euro League lifers that help them win a few playoff games there than a young kid that is going to need development and then jet.

Its a confirmed real thing, and he could be going over there to sit on his arse and not get exposure. It worked out in the Draft for Brandon Jennings, but not sure it would work for him unless he found the right coach and team in Euro.

If he can go GLeague I would strongly consider that if I was him. It is not anywhere close to the level of competition as Euro and he wouldn't get paid anywhere near as much, but he would actually play and be near home. They also play NBA rules and are often coached by NBA level assistant coaches.

This has been allowed since the age limit was instituted, but it's not a viable alternative to the top leagues overseas due to noncompetitive wages.

Latavious Williams was the first to try it, went straight to the D* League out of HS in 2009.

quote:

Williams receive several offers from overseas teams, including an offer from the Chinese Basketball Association which were reportedly worth US$100,000.[9][10] However, his family decided against the idea of playing overseas. He opted to play in the D-League, the NBA's official minor league organization. He chose to earn US$19,000 in the D-League because he believed that he would receive more exposure and experience

The NBA is changing the GLeague and really putting an effort to make it a feeder league. Every NBA team will eventually have their own affiliate, and the NBA is finally starting to put some dollars into it. They'll never compete with Euro salaries, but I know they want to make it much, much more of a thing, so that its more like MLB and AAA.

Good points about the European leagues. Their coaches do not give a damn about developing players for the NBA, nor should they really. Very possible he ends up riding the pine for a full season if he ends up in the wrong system or doesn't take to things right away.

can still play in the D League should he choose, this season

would be the smarter call for him if he doesn't get the waiver. sitting at lsu or playing with other young future pro basketball players (nba and internationally). if he gets the wavier, come on, baw

Yes. All the full release means is he has no restrictions as to where he can go, but he will still have to sit out pending him getting a waiver

Technically they didn't give him a full release, they stipulated that he can not attend any CUSA schools. Not that I believe he would have.

He could sign with an agent and sit out the year while training for the draft. His agent could probably front him more money than he would make in Europe.

He could also play a year of juco ball, if he doesn't want to sit out.

I'm not sure he's a guaranteed one and done so sitting a year at D1 may be his best option.

The NCAA need to let High School kids go pro. This kids best bet If he have to sit out is to sign with a college and train their so he can have a connection and won't get black baller. When its time for the draft in enter the draft even though he hasn't played a college game, I wouldn't play on the JUCO level, nothing to gain and everything to lose.
