That whole thing aggravated me, they were both ranked the same MM had better weight room numbers though and they gave the out of state kid the offer. much rather go with the in state guys.

Spoke with Mauti's dad at the AA game. Sounded like a PSU lock from the get go or atleast that's how his Dad made it out to me? Oklahoma was a serious contender at one point.

When was LSU supposed to look at him? The dude committed in early June and was ALL Penn State just like his family. I don't care who the source is. He wasn't coming here and LSU wasn't dumb or desperate enough to waste time and resources on him. There is no story here.

I went to school with him, played ball with him and i am a friends of his and his brother. Diff was waiting on us to offer or show more interest. It was between lSU and Penn all the way. He is much better than Pratt by the way.

what are you talking about being better than Pratt? Pratt is the rb from the 2009 class, not a linebacker.

You mean Prator I think.

He might be better than Prator but not by much. Like someone said, just cause he can put up a lot of weight in the weight room doesnt make him a badass on the field.

Say what you want about him "seriously considering" LSU... he was all Penn State from day one. Like many others have said already in this post, his dad played there, his brother plays there, and everyone knew he was going to end up there. There is a reason he committed in June, his mind had been made up for a while at that point.

Prater was higher on LSU's board, period. Prater is faster than Mauti. Prater runs a legit 4.5something at his current weight, Mauti isn't slow but he can't touch that.

Michael Mauti

This situation has been discussed at least 10 or 15 times since last NSD... but here goes.

Mauti wanted to commit early in the game last year. At the time he was ready to name a school, PSU had already offered but the LSU coaching staff didn't feel they had enough to go off of to offer him and they still had some huge names at linebacker on the board (Lynn Katoa, Etienne Sabino, Arthur Brown, Brendan Beal, etc.). Once Mauti committed, he was a firm commitment to PSU and the LSU coaches honored his commitment. It wasn't a lack of respect or anything (on either side of the coin).

WOW. I'm not saying that at all. I'm saying that he never got anything from LSU where he was getting alot of interest from bigtime schools. You all can say what you want. What I'm saying is that for an in-state kid as good as he is, who as a side note graduated early to enroll in January, to not get any interest from LSU is ridiculous.

Ok well I'm pretty sure he visited Florida and Oklahoma on his own dime during beginning his Senior year. Once again, I'm not saying that he wasn't going to go there from day one, but LSU showing NO interest for as good a player as Mauti is a slap in the face.

Personally, I think Prater and Mauti both looked shitty in the AA game. I will say that Mauti looked better, but still didn't look good. I think Prater is just not quite ready for major football so he looked a little lost.

Someone posted earlier that Mauti wasn't as fast as Prater and I would have to agree. He is the perfect fit for Penn St and a Big Ten defense. No offense to anybody, but that's just the way it is. One of my friends coached for Mandeville and talked about how lsu was dumb for not offering, but he was going to PSU from the get go.

While it may have assisted in ESPN 150 Watch List linebacker Michael Mauti's (Mandeville, La.) decision to verbally commit to Penn State over the weekend, there were other important aspects that helped steer the defensive run stuffer towards the Nittany Lions besides the football legacy of his brother Patrick and father Rich.

He committed to Penn St. very early. LSU didn't offer the bulk of its prospects as early last year (as this year). So LSU might have offered eventually, but who knows.

I definitely think LSU would have offered in time. I would have graded out Mauti substantially higher than Prater based off of their film and also their play at the Army All-America game (and the fact that I don't for one second believe Prater runs a sub 4.5). And this is not to say that Prater is overrated... I just think Mauti is a better linebacker at this point in time.

Pryor made everyone look subpar in that game. It's hard to prepare for a high school all-star game especially when you are going against a guy like Pryor. He did look lost out there at times but I thought it was due to the circumstances of the situation rather than an indictment of his future ability.
