Jimmy Detail seems to like Lindsey Scott quite a bit. Articles from October when he committed to Syracuse.

quote:

NOLA.com recruiting analyst James Smith believes those programs will regret that.

"Scott Jr. doesn't have the "prototypical" measurements, most notably his 5-foot-11 frame," Smith writes. "As a result, many programs decided to bypass the dual-threat quarterback, in hopes of finding someone who fits the mold of today's gunslingers, who often have all the measurables of an NFL quarterback.

"They will regret that decision."

quote:

With LSU, it was his height, or lack thereof. They believed that Scott was a magnificent high school quarterback, but his height would limit their ability to run an offense that caters to their personnel. Tulane simply had concerns that his lack of time under center in Zachary's shotgun, spread offense, would slow his development down, and limit his ability to succeed in their program.

I think they will both regret that decision. Yes, Scott may work primarily in shotgun. Yes, it may be hard for him to hit a receiver on a slant, with a three-step drop, with his linemen standing 6-5, or taller, but you can not question his ability to get it done, regardless of his deficiencies.

I would say both points are somewhat valid. I personally don't think they should be dis-qualifiers for an offer, for any team.

Can't fix height. Is it absolutely necessary? Debatable.

With strict NCAA limits on practices and such, you can only do so much "project development" so maybe not spending time under center puts you behind the curve; but, slowing development would depend on the person (some are more coachable than others).

LSU sophomore quarterback Brandon Harris experienced Scott's abilities first-hand, as his Parkway team beat Zachary 49-34, during Scott's sophomore season. Harris remains adamant that Scott was the best high school quarterback he had faced, and even drove to Acadiana in 2014, to see see Scott's Zachary Broncos take on Acadiana in the State semifinals as a sign of respect for his game. Harris has reached out to me on multiple occasions to express his admiration for Scott Jr. as a player, and shared in the frustration that his recruitment did not match his abilities.

Another great pull quote!

From a Syracuse fan: This was while he was still committed to them.

quote:

All right. This kid is a spark plug. Not tall. But that seems to be the only negative.

1. Superb accuracy. Superb. It jumps off the film. Doesn't matter how far downfield he throws it, he throws it on a dime. Wow. Seriously most impressive accuracy for a QB recruit that I've seen for Syracuse in a long time. Others might beg to differ. But that's top notch.

2. He has an arm. This physical attribute is soooooo overrated by everybody. Just because a kid can launch it doesn't mean anything if you can't do #1. And he can do 1 and 2

3. He is elusive. Moves in the pocket and out of the pocket with fluidity, takes hits, and keeps going

4. He is fast. Gets separation from defenses on multiple occasions when he has room to run

5. He is the perfect fit for Syracuse's offense under Lester. Perfect. Can throw it, can run it, can get around the edge, can make the intermediate pass.

Fantastic get here. I can see why the NOLA analyst was bemoaning the fact that Scott doesn't have more Power 5 offers, even saying LSU should be on him. Another all-state selection with no Power 5's except Syracuse. Hello, Eric Dungey.

LSU throws maybe 10 slant routes a year so that will not affect Scott.

Scott completed 163 of 255 passes for 3,039 yards and 33 touchdowns with just five interceptions. He also ran for another 1,963 yards on 228 carries and 28 TDs as he led the Broncos to a 14-1 record and the Class 5A state title.

This is all I need to know. Those are some crazy arse numbers right there. Accounted for 5000+ yards and 61 TD's are you kidding me and won 5A Championship.

If we get something along the line of a Russell Wilson I will be ecstatic. The size, ability, smarts, maturity and dedication all make this kid look like a young Russell Wilson.

Same reason everyone passed on Drew Brees coming out of high school.

Is it some guarantee that he will commit here? Did I miss something?

Brandon also came to see him play in the Jamboree this past season so they are pretty familiar with each other. He sat in front of me and I was wondering WTF...

I've said before that he might end up a Dak Prescott-type player. Someone all the ESPN commentators will say "All these teams regret passing up on Scott!" for each game he's in.

You think he is going to let a scholarship offer to LSU go to waste? They don't give these out to just anybody.

I did read the whole post.

Let the recruiting process play out and not call a strike before the pitch was thrown.

The post said LSU will regret passing on Lindsey Scott and we did not pass on Scott. We just did not offer early.

By the way I would have offered this kid prior to your post. I have watched him play and he is some kind of football player. Everyone wants to compare him to some one and he is his own special talent.

Honey Badger was a baller and I hope Scott plays to this potential.

His coach says they run a lot of shotgun in games but they have him practice taking snaps under center to get him ready.
