Riley's offer is for a grey shirt, unless something unforeseen happens...Carter's is for this year. We'll get both, I'm sure, but Riley will be in the 2014 class, while Carter will be in this 2013 class.

All of les miles' fullbacks have been squatty guys.

Carter is taller and I just can't see them lining up and running behind him.

Will be more of an h-back type role if anything

maximus-well for what we do we are, lol, and with the suspended te. not like our te's are an integral part of the offense. plus, since the last decommit from the other fb, it's obvious to me that carter will replace copeland moreso than take plays away from d.smith.

That's how I think he'll be used. Not as a 3pt stance behind the qb guy. But a pulling TE, lead up the hole guy.

Rummel used him pretty effectively as the latter. Had he not hit a growth spurt, he'd be more of the former.

that makes sense project, but knowing miles i think he plays fb more than h-back. i guess we shall see. either way he will be a mismatch for a linebacker. definitely moreso coming out the backfield, jmo.

He is more Richard Dickson than JC Copeland, bottom line

If the numbers don't work our for him at LSU (which I hope they do), he should go to South Florida, Willie Taggart would get the most out of his talent.

if he is more richard dickson then what does that make d. smith because i just don't see them both on the field at the same time often, jmo

One will play, one won't. The same reason we take more than 1 player at most positions.

Best player will play. Other will be depth & wait his time

Also, Carter is built like DE. No telling where these guys might end up.

Carter is kind of a wait and see as far as his body and development. Talented kid but he grew so much, so fast that he probably doesn't even know exactly how big nor how flexible and how he will control his body in the future. Usually takes some time to get used to a body change like he had and for that reason he's kind of a boom or bust kid. He could end up anywhere from FB to OL or DT depending on how his body and coordination come together. As of now it appears he's wanted as a Jacobs type TE with the ability to block and be available in the passing game. Definitely worth an offer according to everything I've heard.

Riley is a talented kid and was always LSU worthy in that regard. The only issue was size and from reports he's improved in that area. Kid's on par with some of the kids in last year's LB class as a talent and I can definitely see why the staff wants to try and get him in. I can see how some question the greayshirt part of the equation because of next year's loaded class but we're gonna take 3 LBs anyway and if Chavis thinks he's one of the 3 guys he wants then who am I to argue.

very good points, and the one thing that stuck out from what you said, is the point that should have been obvious all along:

i trust the staff, especially chavis, more than anyone. if they think these kids are worthy, then they clearly saw something in them that sets them apart, and i back them 100%.

As far as the Grey shirt offer goes, our coaches have been turning over every rock finding players in the '14 class. If they feel like Riley would be the best linebacker in that class, it's worth the offer.

There are RBs, WRs, TEs, DTs, DEs, DBs, but not really and LBs of note in the '14 class in Louisiana other than Riley's teammate.

What about that LB at Katy (Houston) I forget his name? I think JJ27 likes him a lot.
