In Mike D.s recent interview on D.D. he said our D line was too small. I disagree, In '11 the DEs were Mingo(235), Montgomery (245), L. Edwards, Rasco, Aghayere, K Adams. Only Edwards was over about 250. The DTs were Brockers (315) Logan(300) Downs, A. Johnson, & Ego. That DL strength was depth, 11 played, & the O controlled T.O.P....this line is just as big but has more depth. I. Washington & D. Clark, who looked 285 vs TT should be back. Logan/Ed/RL are all 300ish, Roddy will be about 260, Anthony will rotate w Key&Bower. By midseason we could confidently be playing 12 DL. I think the D line will be a big strength.
Edit: sorry for posting on Rec board

The new DTs in the 2016 class bring size and depth

Good post and agree 100%. Think RL will pay early and often. Both a blessing and somewhat of curse if you hate guys leaving early (I dont), this could be a special year for the DL and could mask the the depth issues at LB.

I think the D line play will definitely help the LBs, the great thing is the Fr will be able to come along at their own pace early. They won't have to play a ton, they will be playing against tired OL which will help too

Wait till Coach Moffitt gets those guys in the gym this spring/summer. Defense is going to be nasty!

We were without a doubt too small upfront last year...

Weren't Godchaux, Lacouture, Herron, and Gilmore all ~300 pounds? I know Key, Neal, Bower, et al. were between 250 and 285, but that's the sorta range I expect from DE's.

That doesn't seem "small without a doubt" to me.

Typing this on my phone, so I apologize if my memory is inaccurate or I goofed on spelling anyone's name(s).

Many will play early, RL,CR are my fav's on d-line.
Great class overall, just gotta see what coach O and Aranda can scheme, provided the young men sponge
it up !!

Depth and rotation hurt more than anything. DL would have looked different with Bain and Valentine part of the rotation in November. Neal and Godchaux were playing too many snaps and it wore them down during that last stretch.

I agree with you 100%. Our problem on defense has been:

1) Line depth
2) Line youth (DTs were 2nd and 3rd year guys in 2015; 1st and 2nd year guys in 2014)
3) Offense can't move the ball against good teams.

I had the same reaction when I read that. About the only one who could be considered "small" for their position is Neal.

Thank John Chavis for sacrificing size for speed.

Vs bama and Arkansas, I was saying the samething. That and lack of depth up the middle.

Our Defenses biggest problem was the offense going 3 and out.. I mean, we didn't have great depth or size but damn, at DT Lac,Gdchx,Herron,Gilmore at ends Bower, Neal, Key. The injury to Washington hurt, D. Clark's issues hurt, Teuhema problems hurt, I think Bain would have been really good.... But the O hurt the defense more than anything..... Here's the thing, with everyone coming back + Clark, Washington, Teuhema?? and 3 300 pounders, a 260#DE, and another WDE to rotate in we have plenty of depth and size for next year... Ride against Detiellier for '16! Whos with me!!!??

Speaking of Bain, I just read that he is no longer committed to UAB, so where's he going now?

As you watched our defensive line get blown off the line of scrimmage in the AL, OM and AR games did you think our DL was big enough?? Our DL is big enough to handle most teams, but not AL, OM and AR at this time.
