Good to see they are acting maturely and its all about TRUST

quote:

Kelly announced that defensive coordinator Matt House, cornerbacks coach Robert Steeples, safeties coach Kerry Cooks and defensive line coach Jimmy Lindsey are out in Baton Rouge.

“It is what it is but it’s a business move,” four-star Kolaj Cobbins said. “I’m sticking with LSU because I didn’t go to LSU for any coach. I could have seen it coming but I didn’t want it to happen. It’s not the coaches’ fault. The coaches can’t play for the players.

“Coach House, that was my guy. Me and coach Cooks had a bond, too. Louisiana is a different state than all these other states. It’s mad love over there. With me being from there, it gives them bonus points. I’m just ready for whoever they bring in, the next man on a mission.”

Four-star defensive tackle Dominick McKinley, who emphatically stated Wednesday at the Under Armour All-America Game that he was going to sign with LSU in February, expects the Tigers to end up with upgraded staff once the dust settles.

"They're gonna get somebody better for defense," he said. "We're gonna bring back LSU like it used to be."

Four-star linebacker Davhon Keys was on his break between practice sessions Wednesday when a reporter told him that LSU had removed those assistant coaches.

The Aledo, Texas standout was definitely disappointed especially since no one let him know something was coming but Keys is ready to move on and focus on his future in Baton Rouge.

“I had a great relationship with all the coaches,” Keys said. “It’s unfortunate that they had to go but we have a great group of guys coming in and I don’t think the coaching change will affect us very much.

“We all play hard. We all play good football. It will be a new group of coaches teaching us the schemes. … Going into the process, I heard that a lot from the previous recruits that the coaches won’t always be there forever so you have to like the campus, you have to like the academics, you have to like the school for a school, not just for a person.”

Even still, it’s difficult.

Four-star cornerback Ju’Juan Johnson from Lafayette (La.) Lafayette Christian Academy was not expecting it, didn’t know about it but is still focused on what he can do to make the Tigers a national title team again.

“I built some great relationships with those coaches,” Johnson said. “Coach Steeples, coach Matt House, I built great relationships with those guys so seeing them get fired, seeing them having to move onto another school was heart-wrenching for sure.

“People always say, ‘Don’t commit to a coach, commit to a program,’ so once I saw they were going, I didn’t have any thoughts of de-committing, I just felt like they were family. I committed to the program, not the coaches, so I’m good where I’m at right now.”

I wonder how honest they’re being about not knowing it was coming.

Wish Zalance was acting as mature.

They probably knew (were informed) changes were coming, just not any specifics...

Huh? Lol nothing is contradictory about those statements or the parts you underlined.

Step 1: Coaches fired

Step 2: Ju'juan johnson finds out coaches were fired; doesn't have any thoughts of de-committing

Step 3: Reporter asks him about it.

He said he wasn't expecting it and didn't know about it before it was announced, and then once he found out (after the announcement but before the question was posed to him) he didn't waver in his commitment. I don't understand what's difficult to comprehend, here.

He's signed, not committed. He either misspoke and used the term "de-commit" or knew about it before he signed and gave out more info than he meant to.

Virtual PROOF that he was told ahead of his signing.

You're right. The comments don't line up, but I agree that he probably misspoke when he referred to commitment, or at least "commitment" as it's used in recruiting. I think he was using the word in the more general sense, as meaning that it doesn't cause him to waiver or change his mind.

You're overthinking an 18 year old giving an unprepared answer. There is no double meaning or other meaning. When he said decommit, he basically meant leaving. The term he meant to say is transfer.

Wow, of all the click bait articles out there today this was not what I expected. Every single one responded committed to the program and no knee jerk reactions for or against the firing. Impressive.

Just want to remind everyone how unlikely this would’ve been 2 months ago. Wild turn of events

Nobody knows what is going through these kid’s heads. For all we know he could have just been collecting a fat check from A&M for just being committed to them (heard that’s a thing now) with every intention of flipping right before signing day. Either way he has the right attitude about it. Love it.

I’ve seen him play a number of times and really believe he is going to be a star at LSU. I know they are signing him as a CB, but he should get some snaps on offense as well.

His new teammates might haze him a bit for that.

Yeah it only makes sense if he found out during that game…, then it sounds like his reaction was past tense

Lmao what? Literally all this is VIRTUAL PROOF of is that he trusted them to make a strong hire. When House was fired, didn’t every single lsu fan think that we were gonna wind up with someone better? Are you saying that that proves Brian Kelly secretly told all of us the hire in advance?
