He's going to a gimmick offense that has put exactly one QB in the NFL

There is honestly nothing much that is gimmicky about their offense .

I like his pick, I like La kids going to programs where we can watch them develop.

Not many of these things are as tragic or beneficial as they seem. You can't decide you want to recruit nationally and be upset when local kids go down the road

Not knocking the kid at all for his decision if it is what he really wants. He could be a college QB that does fairly well, but saying he'll develop as a QB under Malzahn goes against his history.

There's nothing to be sour over. I agree.

I actually like DT QB's but Lowell's film was too much running for me. Really reminded me of RS.

I wish him the best this season, but I hope he fails miserably at Auburn. Not out of spite or bitterness but I hope all auburn athletes suck lol. Congrats on his commitment.

I also agree don't forget Z Dinkelman (sp?)

Are we talking about specifically when Malzahn was an HC or are we including his time as an OC?

I use the term gimmick generically here. It's a read option style offense. There isn't anything really complicated about it for the players running it and while effective in college, doesn't develop a QB's ability to go through progressions, play under center, understood route trees and learning to stay in the pocket without playaction.

It is simply an offense not devised to develop a players skills, but to put up points and stats very effectively. That isn't a big deal if you are a fan of the team, because it works, but if you want to see players develop into potential pros and reach their potential, then for QBs it is a horrible system unless you have top tier talent both in your arm and legs (like a Newton, Mariota, etc).

Exactly their entire offense is built around a gimmick and has been run by a CB lined up at the QB spot for the last few years.

I wish him the best of luck, but if he's looking to go pro, this isn't the best decision for him.

I don't really think LSU should throw stones at this. When we try to run a pro style & read option offense.

What was the logic in coming to LSU camp for a day if he knew he was commiting elsewhere. I mean a phone call to his lead recruiter would have been respectable enough. Happy for the kid to be going to a place he wants.

There are 32 "NFL" QBs, one is from Gus. That is about as good as it gets. Very, very few programs or coaches need to make that the standard for QB development.

The offense is not a gimmick, it is a way to score points. Malazahn has earned all the credentials he needs. It's competition, if fans or players don't like it, they better find a way to get used to it

LSU has put 3 QBS in the NFL in the same time frame as a draft picks, all of whom have started games. LSU's offense wasn't great the last few years, but at least those QBs know how to play under center.

The LSU offense isn't entirely predicated on misdirection, and that is a huge difference.

I don't remember his days at Arkansas or Tulsa. But I do know Malzahn got a hell of a lot out of a mediocre Chris Todd.

I just don't see the point in shining a light on Auburn's lack of developing QB's. When LSU hasn't done a wonderful job under the guidance of Cameron.

I never questioned his offenses' successes, but as far as developing QBs, they don't develop QBs almost at all for the pro game.

LSU has had 3 QBs drafted and starting games in the same time frame, and are you really using Newton to bolster his QB coaching/developing abilities? I hate Newton as much as anyone, but the guy is a historical talent for his size and arm strength. Narcisse isn't even half the athlete Newton is.

Cam Cameron's developed one QB thats played in the NFL. I just don't get your argument at this point.

Not true. He's a talented kid. He's just not a team-maker.
