Malik is a very good basketball player but I think B Samp can be a TQ type of player in 2 years. And I can deal with that plus with one of those juco guards we will be alright.

Actually he'd love to be at LSU he just doesn't like the log jam at guard and wanted to get major PT from day one. Sampson and his family go to almost every home football game and a ton of basketball games. LSU is back in the mix since St. John's had a coaching change. Not saying we land him but don't count LSU out right now.

This.

He said he wants PT a soon as he steps on campus. He also said that LSU has been calling him everyday since St. John's fired their coach.

Regardless if Malik comes here or not, I would be more than happy to have Brandon Sampson on the team. He is a special player wherever he goes.

I'd take Newman and Sampson. :)

Or Sampson and Kayongo.

If he wants to play there is just no way he comes here is the problem. I wish kids wouldn't think like this, though. The following year he would stand to get MAJOR minutes and be a focal point.

I agree cause starting is not that serious. As long as you make the most of the minutes you are given you will shine anyway. TQ first year was below average and then his second year in my opinion a All Conference season. Most that start they first year don't pan out anyway and end up transferring.

t-man147, TQ did really improve in his 2nd year, but All Conference...no. First year starters rarely transfer. However, I understand the point of wanting to play, but most of these kids have a higher opinion of their skill level than the reality suggests. Sampson would have two or three years as a starter at LSU in all probability.

In my eyes LSU is the perfect place for Sampson. You get to come in with a team that has established players in the backcourt that will be leaving in the next 2 years and learn from them. No pressure on being the guy, you get time to adjust to college basketball. But these kids want to be one and dones, wanna come in and score 20 a game. When in reality only a few players are capable of that, take your time enjoy the process and develop your skills. I really do hope we land Sampson because I think he has a very high ceiling. He's long athletic and can shoot it. He could contribute a good bit next year but in year 2 and 3 he could be a big time player for us.

Especially with Coach Tree coming in here who is known for developing the skills of guys not getting a ton of gametime.
