Looking at info available online, he originally commited to LSU but flipped to Miss. State. Any reason? MLB draftee or solid college starter? Looks like he dominates with good stuff and not overpowering.

Wanted a bigger offer from LSU, but they did not budge from original offer. Miss St. offered a bigger scholarship.

Kid is legit. Saw him against WM to start the year. They didn't have a single ball leave the infield. Only hit was a bleeder infield single. Great control of 3 pitches, pitched backwards most of the game.

Of course State offered more money, it costs State more for an out of state player. Wish cooler heads would have prevailed, but Kale is the real deal.

He should be a solid college guy. Mississippi St. offered a little more than us from what I understand.

He is way better than just offering Tops.

Wish Him well.

Kale is 7-0 w/2 saves 0.13 ERA and 100 ks in 56 innings plus he's a great kid on and off the field. Yea I would say LSU missed out. Did the same thing with Nick Lee out of South Beauregard. LSU losing instate kids due to trying to lowball instate kids. Really can't blame either of them for doing what's best for them.

Maybe I don't understand the rules so please explain if I'm wrong. But if they're instate and have the grades shouldn't they be eligible for TOPS? If that's the case then what does it matter?

More money is more money, not all that difficult to understand.

So TOPS would not offset a larger partial scholarship from an out of state school, got it

I'm okay losing out on Nick Lee. He is destined to have TJ as much as he pitches every week since his Sophomore year.

I wouldn't say they are low balling kids. They only have like 11.7 total scholarships to give to the whole team. Hard to divide that up and keep ppl happy. Especially with the talent LSU has

He's got one good coach there at least. It damn sure isn't the head coach, but I think he'll be alright.

LSU not lowballing at all. It cost more to bring a kid in from out of state, so they're offered more. It was all about ego. He's lost the chance to be a hero in his own state. Hope it was worth it. He is a great player, and I hope he has a long career in the MLB, but it was silly to let this become a factor in where he went to school.

Stevo- FYI: Kale was offered a total of $14,000 to attend LSU over a 4 year period. Would have cost his parents a pretty penny to send him there. Mississippi State offered 125,000 over 4 years. Parents don't have to pay much there. Kindof a no brainer. Kale is a fantastic kid and it was very difficult for him to decommit from LSU. He did what was best for him and his family.

So, the lowball talk was just crazy inaccurate. The kid just got a full ride offer at another school. That's not something you can criticize LSU about.

Not Something you can fault the kid for either.

So he'll receive around $3,500 a year, and assuming he's not retarded he'll get TOPS. Thats practically a full ride for an in-state student. He can't ask for much more.

If it was truly financially driven, of course not.

If the out of pocket money all things considered (Tops, etc.) were in the ballpark, and he made an emotional decision based on an out of state offer vs. LSU's offer then I would disagree with you (to the extent that you criticize a kid for choosing a different school than LSU. The assumption is that he wanted to come to LSU.).

All you have to do is read this post (TorNation is a good example) and see that people are having an emotional reaction to it...and I'm sure MSU was selling it that way.

I have no idea where the truth lies. But if the bolded part below is true, then I support the kid in his decision.

I guess the question is about what your definition of "pretty penny" is. What was the out of pocket difference? You seem to know. Can you specifically state the difference? It might shed light on why some say he was being "lowballed" and others are saying this was a pride issue.
