One opinion from an athlete's Dad that traveled the road years ago:

Looks like they are putting in the time, effort & $ required for a kid that is not a Fournette type. Guessing the geography and level of competition are a factor for this youngster.

Harsh reality is a lot of developable talent ends up in D-2 for a "books" scholarship without the needed coaching talent to truely develop the skills.

As a dad, I would pick a handful of desired programs, negotiate a preferred walk-on status & hit the student loan process to get him through a freshman year. With his GPA, he should get an academic ride. Think the Tigers have this scenario in play with this class. Reevaluate at the end of that year & make a decision about the future at that point. Some youngsters that have no chance at the NFL (most) are content to ride the bench to be a part of a program, others want to play.

The recruiting journey is not an easy path to travel, believe me.

His release point is high but he is good. I am not sure why la tech or Hawaii wouldn't want this kid. Texas tech. Washington state. He would play in the next 2 years. I pray les and cam read this article and invite this kid to walk on. Or he'll give him a schollie if we miss on Gibson

Why LSU isn't calling him the minute they read this article is beyond me.

I bet this is a kid that would be in it for the long haul of a program and willing to back up folks till his number is called.

My question is can a school extend an offer after NSD?
I assume so. The final date for signing is April 1

Why would LSU want a QB who completes passes? Running is so much better.

you are praying for this?

I think the missing piece is the kid is an academic performer and most schools are trying to hold a scholarship and get him to come in on the academic/walk on route. Clearly the kid and his parents want him to get an athletic scholarship instead.

If I were advising this kid I would say to walk on to the school you really want to attend or go to JUCO or a prep school and show your ability against better competition.

Dont get me wrong I would advise him of that as well. I just think we are filling this class up and dont have that many Schollies to go out. Unless you are willing to turn away a Peters or Weathersby someone like that in a position of need. (QB is greatly needed as well.)

I like this kid and I am dumbfounded as to how he is not already in school going through spring with somebody. Delaware to NM state.

I live in New Mexico and saw every one of this kid's games this year. He is an absolute beast. Quick feet, quick release, comfortable throwing screens and short to intermediate routes.

Put up tremendous numbers with an undersized offensive line and only one receiver with real skill.

Probably one of his most impressive talents was the ability to check in to and out of plays at the line like he he had memorized the defensive playbooks.

My kid goes to Rio Rancho with him and he is by all reports a great kid with a great attitude and tremendously intelligent.

No idea why he's not getting offers.

Don't drink the Kool Aid. A friend of mine pulled his son from the same high school In NM. I watched the son's high school film before the transfer. The competition is worst in the country. NO EXAGGERATION!!

He's at IMG now.

Are talented kids not allowed to play against poor talent?
