If we can get Swilling, Hammink, and Coleman and also add a JUCO big that would be a nice first class along with Morgan considering everything.
You really need at least two post players. Right now you only have one guy unless you want to put Ludwig or Courtney out there, and having two post players on the roster doesn't really work because they're going to get in foul trouble (when you play a team with depth in the post they'll go physical on you to insure it).
You have to have three guys in the post. And Ludwig and Courtney can't be part of that three, because you'll never beat anybody.
Not to mention that O'Bryant is going to go down the road on you if you ask him to play the 5 all game, plus the fact that O'Bryant's conditioning for being able to handle an assignment anything like that is very much in question.
We need two post players, and they really can't be scrubs. They don't have to be David Robinson and Tim Duncan, but they do need to be SEC-caliber role players at least.

And that was at one of the top JUCO's in the country. The entire starting lineup averaged double figures and will all be playing D1.
Speaking of that lineup, what happened with Luke Cothron? if uncommitted, that is who Swilling should be talking to

LSU could probably get Cothron, if they wanted him. But he is a thug, POS. Not sure Johnny wants him.

I thought that was the whole point of bringing Johnny in, to go back to the questionable characters

Cothron is an absolute no-brainer of a sign, if you're going to take Swilling.
He's 6-8, he's got some good low-post moves and he's an absolute demon on the boards.
He's a demon off the court, too. No question about that. But you're better off taking a chance on a thug you can run off if you have to than to go sign up another Eddie Ludwig or Rich Krajewski who couldn't play a lick if his life depended on it.
You're just not going to find a Grant Hill at this late date. Would I prefer to sign up Tony Parker and Anthony Bennett over Cothron? Yeah, but we don't have a shot at those guys.

There are questionable characters.
And then there is Luke Cothron.
However, if Johnny thinks he can handle him and keep him in line, more power to him. Although, I have seen nothing that suggests he is even on LSU's radar and vice-versa. You never know, especially with Swilling maybe on board.

I agree with 2 bigs, just not sure whether JJ can come up with that.
1 good Big is a must though.

Why not? He can add a physical presence at guard that can penetrate and defend.
because shooting guard is the deepest position on our team?
stringer
turner
issac
Morgan
Even though he is probably better than all of those guys.
will Johnny man up and relieve 1 or 2 of those guys from their scholarship?

what are cothron's issues?
He went to about 5 high schools, 3 colleges, arrests, kicked off team, drugs, bad attitude.

doubt it.

I doubt Swilling is better than Turner (who admittedly had a sophomore slump) or Morgan
Posted on 4/16/12 at 3:19 pm to Elleshoe
Turner had a freshman slump too. He's been bad.
Morgan was a better HS player than Swilling. Swilling just has 2 years of CBB experience therefore giving him the benefit of the doubt that he'd see time before Morgan.

A story about Cothron getting booted off the team at College of Southern Idaho.
The kid can play, though.

wouldn't say he's been BAD. He was freshman all-SEC. I'd say he's been mediocre for a SG in the SEC. Hopefully a system with some movement will benefit him.

kind of by default.
But i hope your right. a new system could benefit him.

Jones said in his press conference that his teams will run. Maybe he wants to load up on athletic guards and wings?
Swilling is definitely athletic and supposedly can guard.
