Why don't the work on shutting down SUNO, knocking LSUA back down to a JUCO, consolidating BPCC and Southern-Shreveport, and shutting down useless programs at all the other universities in the state before they start this shite.

When will people learn to never vote for a democrat even if the other guy sucks too.

of course he's been governor for just a few months and the legislature is predominantly republican as was the former governor (the one that was in power as the state went to hell financially).

why in the frick do they get a pass? that's the problem; they know their constituency always blames the democrats so they feel free to frick things up.

when are the voters in Louisiana gonna wake up and hold their politicians, OF BOTH PARTIES, accountable. a constitutional convention is LONG OVERDUE; amendments need to be made or education in the state is going to CONTINUE to deteriate.

you complain about raising taxes while complaining about cutting programs.

Medicaid expansion and raises for his staff were the first things on the agenda

Correct he expanded a program that state suffered from over a billion in fraud last year. He also massively criticized how Jindal was paying the staff and he then decided to give them all raises in the mist of this budget issue.

Yeah because republicans did not get the state in this mess.

I love when people just choose a side (republican or democrat) and will stand by it so much they ignore the mistakes their party has made. Get educated.

The politicians on both sides of the isle in the Legislature are who is to blame for the fiscal mess Louisiana now finds itself in. IT was not just Jindal who created the budget mess all the politicians who go to Baton Rouge as members of the legislature had the opportunity to vote against Boggy Jindals proposals but decided against it.

The truth be told is they continued to spend and spend and spend some more even though the state was in a budget crisis.
John Kennedy is right you can raise taxes as much as you want they will just spend it on their pork barrel projects and we will be in the same mess for
years to come.
Louisiana problem is the budget is designed around oil trading at 80.00 a barrel for states budget to break even. Oil has traded in the 80.00 a barrel range in well over a year yet the state signs 14 million dollars worth consulting contracts in for 2016.

It is disgraceful for the Governor Edwards to use LSU athletics and the TOPS program as political footballs in his political gamesmanship. Even if he does not in fact end up touching either, he has already inflicted damage. The uncertainty it creates has a chilling effect. You can say that it is all bluster but the fact is that what the governor has said is officially out there. You can be certain that coaches like Saban, Bielema, Freeze, Sumlin, Meyer, along with boosters/recruiters at schools like Alabama, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, etc, will bring this up to create an air of instability and future uncertainty regarding LSU athletics.

What will be the commitment to future coaches' salaries and length of contracts? How much will President Alexander raid LSU athletic funding to satisfy his academic bottom line? How much will Governor Edwards press Alexander to squeeze more money away from LSU athletics and hinder plans to invest in athletic infrastructure?

From my perspective, LSU boosters and athletic personnel need to very quickly establish a firewall; make it very clear to the governor and the president just how much interference they will tolerate. There should be a bright red line around their territory. That is, if LSU boosters are capable of doing so. Perhaps they are unable to bring enough power to bear to do so.

It's ironic that the gravest danger to lsu turns out not to be Saban at Alabama or some other external threat hell bent on sending the program back to mediocrity but rather our own governor and president.

frick louisiana politics.

Apparently you lack the comprehension skills to understand what I posted.
You are part of the problem. No wonder you are always negative here. Too comfortable with free handouts?
I'm not against raising taxes, I'm against raising taxes to boost programs that reward the laziest people of our society that will never contribute one iota to our economy, the thing that keeps everyone employed. Instead they keep those useless programs running they threaten people with the closure of state Universities, the entity that teaches young people to become positive and needed resources that fuel the exact economy that the other programs are breaking down. Shame on you.

I find it funny as hell that the same people who decry entitlement programs are up in arms about the loss of TOPS.
