...his name is Logan Gragg, and he's a 6-6, 190-pound lefthanded pitcher out of Connors State JC in Oklahoma.

11-2 with a 2.50 ERA this year. 86.1 IP, 68 hits, 20 walks, 82 strikeouts. Threw six complete games in 14 starts.

The downside is, this guy wouldn't help next year. He had Tommy John surgery in May. So this kid would be a take for 2019, where you'd figure he and Walker would be laying in wait to take over for Hess and Gilbert as your Friday-Saturday guys.

Mainieri said we'd be bringing in 11 new pitchers this year, but I've only been able to find 10. This must be the other one.

I'd heard he had another guy. Was really hoping it would be an impact pitcher.

Which this guy would be, just not this year.

But if you accept that 2018 isn't really going to be our season, you can get excited about this pickup if it happens. This kid was dominant as a freshman this year before he got hurt.

And now there's another name I just got. I don't know if this guy is the guy and Gragg is not, or if they're taking both of them and Gragg is a 2019 commitment.

But this guy's name is Brandon Nowak, and he's from Oakton College in Illinois. Originally signed with Miami.

6-4, 180-pound lefty.

Chicago Tribune article from February

Twitter announcement of his commitment

Stats: 4-2, 2.11 ERA. In 55 IP, 50 hits, 17 walks, 66 strikeouts.

I wonder if we took this Nowak guy because he looks like Hunter Newman.

This kid is JUCO. Do they not play 9 innings in JUCO? I know they only play 7 in HS, but I thought once you got to college at any level it was 9.

Unless they changed the rules it's definitely 9

Looking at his game log, it looks like he only ever threw on double header days. Jucos will rarely play 2 nines, they may play 1 nine and 4 sevens over the course of a weekend though.

So if I'm reading this correctly, it appears that we had a new baseball commitment 5 days ago on 7/2, and nobody really knew or talked about on here until today?

That is SO different than football recruiting where we hear about a guys Top 10 schools of interest every other week.

all the high schools i'm familiar with play 9 inning games. if fact, I've never seen a 7 inning game in high school. my son grew up when we lived in Tennessee and they played 9 inning games in middle school as well.

Pretty sure the NFHS standard is 7 innings and has been for a quite a while. When is the last time you've actually seen a high school game?

Good lord, when was the last time you went to a HS game. I'm 27 and played through HS and I've never heard of a HS regulation game being longer than 7 innings. That's pretty much standard across the board. Maybe if your playing in a wood bat prospect league for HS players in the summer or something, but not for a normal HS game.
