One faculty that should sell a recruit no one else has and that's Tiger Stadium. The best venue in the country. And with the latest improvement how can't it be even better?

Facilities play a huge role, but recruiting is all facilities is hyperbole. One of numerous important factors though.

He (Les) goes to bed every night in a state that produces (per capita) more prospects than any other state and has no in-state competition.

I think he makes a great point; but, although I realize baseball and football are apples and oranges, I was amazed when LSU played UCLA in Cali to see that their baseball facilities are almost laughably bad. Yet, they have stellar recruiting classes. Why? Players, especially Pitchers, know they will develop at UCLA. The draft numbers don't lie.
LSU football = NFLU even if we don't have a waterfall. Nobody is better at player development than the coaches at LSU. The numbers don't lie. That is why I think Les and his staff recruit so well. And it's much harder now because many La kids these days aren't that interested in playing for the home team (except for the cream of the crop LF and DM ).

That's why Curley Hallman was such an overwhelming success.

kaboom!
My thoughts exactly!
yes, we love LES and he doesn't get enough credit but let's get one thing perfectly clear
Tiger Stadium under the lights is very special
Even Les uses TS in this recruiting pitch!

What are the criteria for rankings of 'facilities' and which teams are in the top ten?

off the top of my head?
Oregon
Tamu
UTenn
Bama
Arkansas
Okla State
That's the top right now but they've all had major renovation in the last couple of years. LSU had there's in 06 I think. So, it's about time. They will be redoing them within the next year hopefully.
In five years their facilities will be mediocre. It is a revolving door as to who has the best.
However, I do believe that Bama will stay towards the top while Saban is there.
I do think LSU is top 10, though. Probably right around 9 or 10. NOthing drastic needs to change. Our practice field is top notch as well as the weight room. It's the swag stuff that needs to be added. I also think we need a much bigger media department and a bigger social media influence.
Again, it's amazing how ours was top 2 in the country less than 10 years ago and now is barely top 10. Things change soooo fast.
I'm glad that Berry said this though, because we need a kick in our arse to speed up these renovations.

i'll agree with this. they looked damn good Saturday night, esp their D. their offense looked well coached and seemed to execute well they were just over matched.

honestly, the stuff these kids see on their visits isn't what matters to the fans. We love an awesome game environment and stadium and winning.
A lot of these kids see the practice facilities and locker rooms and game rooms all the time. It's the first thing they see and what they'll be around all the time.
Now, not all kids are the same, but the ones that want to see swag are impressed by the following:
locker room/game room/other cool swag amenities
practice facilities
weight room
stadium and environment
cafeteria I guess
educational facilities and campus
I mean you gotta realise that these kids don't just visit on game days. They visit when campus is empty during the summer and all other times coaches can get them on campus. You also gotta realize they are kids. When I was 18, my world revolved around partying, friends, cars, and girls. That's your target demographic.
So, it's like any other thing. You show someone the really shiny stuff first (practice facilities and locker rooms) to get their interest and also get the public talking about your program. Then you sell them. It's all about getting your foot in the door.
Then when you have their attention and show them the shiny stuff you sell them on the program. hey, look at all our trophies and NFL players. That solidifies it.
Again though, for some kids the swag doesn't matter. They have wanted to be a Tiger or bulldog or Gump all their life. it's a dream and the swag doesn't matter. But for others, you gotta impress them or team b or c will.
So, while our practice facilities may be awesome and more than enough, to stay at the top you have to keep updating and changing. It's no longer enough just to sell the program's history.
You also need a media team to push that stuff down the public's throat. You want writers talking about all your shiny new toys and people watching youtube videos every day.

Sounds like Todd wouldnt mind landing a job on the LSU coaching staff to me. He would probably make more money as an assistant there than he does now, which is the sad thing.

Yes and no. Assistants make a million a year at LSU.
Posted on 9/15/14 at 10:11 pm to JJ27
He only makes 200k at ULM. Plus 100k from the boosters. 300k.

problem is, Berry is a OC at heart and came up as a qb coach at miami. There's really no room for him.
However, he has a long career ahead of himself and is doing very well at ULM.
His past coaching stops were pretty brutal but they would have been for anyone.
I think he took his first HC at army which was a bad move. There was no way he could win there. I have a feeling he may end up back at Tulsa, his alma mater if they don't keep their current coach around.
