Well I guess it depends on what opportunities you are looking for. Baton Rouge can be a pretty close knit scene when your looking for opportunities, but my experience is that there are a lot of other cities that could give a shite who your momma and daddy are or where you went to high school. I guess if you are from Baton Rouge it all depends on what you planning on doing AFTER football, or the other half of your life...Mannings were a bad comparison, but they still call New Orleans home. No Jelly? who dat

The Mannings may "call" NOLA home, but neither lives there in the offseason, fwiw. Lets don't get started on them though, it'll get crazy quick here, lol..

Say you were at U-High for 4 years, how excited would you be about staying another 3-5 years in the same place? I assume this scenario doesn't apply to die-hard tigers. But what if you didn't grow up bleeding purple/gold?
If you don't love the home team you probably root for another team and want to go there instead. But most folks from Louisiana dream of becoming LSU Tigers and making a seismic play that brings everyone to their feet and leaves you happily deaf.
FWIW this is why big name schools have such prominent home field advantages.

Personally I would stay close to home and play "across the street." Can you imagine going to an LSU game as a high schooler and watching some of the SEC battles with 90K other screaming fans. Just thinking about being on the field has to be a great motivator.
I understand the independence thing and wanting to get away but to me it's just a cop out. When you go to college the experience is so different than high school going from say 2,000 kids to 20,000 kids. It's like night and day. The experience at college whether you go across the street or across state lines is amazing!
Your question is legit but IMO the experience will be similar whether you stay close to home or move away to another university. You still travel all over the country to play no matter what and meet new people. Surroundings are familiar close to home and I think that's a good thing. Plus having an opportunity to play for a championship EVERY year!
Advice: Stay close to home and make your state proud!

If Alabama had a similar high school on their campus do you think any stud recruits would ever go anywhere else?
They would have been bought and paid for their freshman year in HS.

Serious? It doesn't matter if you go to UHigh or St Aug or Winnfield. If players want to go to LSU, they will. If they want to leave, they will. Where you go to high school doesn't change any of that IMO.

Disagree. As someone that went to U-High, I'm positive I would have gone to LSU had I been from mandeville, new orleans, shreve, etc.

most people that get into lsu go there from u high, unless they get into a better school

If I was a stud recruit from anywhere on Earth, I would be honored to join the LSU program. The best should want to run with the best.

Thats kinda why I started this thread. It just seems like more D1 recruits are going to be coming out of there

I went to U-High K through 12th grade. I would have killed to play ball at LSU. Settled for La Tech.

Yeah, I guess if I had the skills to play ball at LSU it would have been a hard opportunity to pass up...but not all kids who go to U-High think that way. Brad Banta going to USC is probably the biggest loss LSU ever suffered. He had pretty long NFL career well.

Very well said. My wife and I were having this conversation about a month ago. If I was a player who wasnt NFL caliber but was good enough (and smart enough) to be offered a scholarship to Stanford or Vandy Id jump on it in a heartbeat. Obviously itd be nice to play for LSU since ive always been an LSU fan, but getting a free ride to either of those schools seems lile itd be a no brainer.
Now if you have NFL aspirations, you have to choose the school that gives you the beat opportunity to develop even more and make that dream come true.

That's because you're a fan. I would have too, I'm not saying that. But, if I wasn't a lifelong LSU fan, It would be different. Like someone said, being a fan is a different mindset from eing an athlete and making a decisions where you go.
