I've heard this story too many times before, not expecitng him to be a Tiger.

There's always 1 sometimes 2 guys we get false hopes for:

Mac Marshall
Bobby Bradley
Nick Longhi
Justin Williams
David Palladino

....invariably some guys will break our hearts, McKay is easily the highest chance in this go around. Better to not expect him and not be let down or pleasantly surprised.

Yep and it's disappointing, but you can understand a kid saying what he has to in order to get some sort of leverage. I wonder if they're generally honest with the coaches despite whatever comments they make publicly. As for Marshall though, that one annoyed me.

I still dont understand Marshall. If they didnt meet his number, why back out of your commitment to LSU and go to a JUCO? Does he really think he's going to get drafted a lot higher and get a much higher number after just 1 year there? Did he really just not want to get locked into a 3 year commitment?

I'll never get it. I doubt he really helped himself at all.

The Marshall situation really pissed me off. I think he just went to summer classes and start of the semester and decided ehhh screw this whole "school" thing.

This and the astros told him if they sign Brady way under slot than they can give him what he wants.

Bobby Bradley

@DellengerAdv: Mainieri just said at BR Press Club he told Bobby Bradley to skip #LSU & sign with Indians ($900K). Said he's never revealed that publicly.

Maybe CPM was really confident in chinea and our '15 recruit

Then there's the

Jared Mitchell
DJ LeMaheiu
Kevin Gausman
Jacoby Jones
Alex Bregman
Alex Lange
Jake Latz
Jake Godfrey

None were "expected" to wind up in college following their respective junior years of high school.

Edit: Just to note it goes both ways

Didn't Zach Lee have that number to match and the Dodgers ended up not giving him that number but he still signed anyway? I think he got some where around 1.6 but I thought it was still under his target amount.

Certainly goes both ways, my point is we ALWAYS lose at least 1 guy to the draft in our signing class, McKay is easily the most likely one of our entire list to lose. So it's not really a good idea to expect him in, like I said, better to be pleasantly surprised.

I believe that the majority of commits are honest with PM; they tell him the truth if they want to be drafted and use their LSU commitment to get the biggest pay day they can, and that's okay with PM. He keeps their secret as long as they are honest with him. Von Rosenburg is the one I think PM feels flat out lied to him in a dishonorable way. .Marshall really thought he was going to the Astros and was honest with PM about wanting to be drafted, and then, when it didn't happen I guess he couldn't get a handle on 3 years of school.

pM is on record somewhere saying he never counts on a first/second round making his roster.

No coach looking to keep his job counts on 1st and 2nd rounders

I could be wrong, but it seems to me that the Dodgers paid Zach around $5 mm to make sure they swayed him away from LSU and football. The amount was ridiculous!

How good of a QB was he? Would he even had played in a 3 year career?

He did get about $5MM. At the time no one thought that was going to happen though because the Dodgers were close to bankrupt. But because he signed the football LOI, the MLB rules allowed for the signing bonus to be deferred over 5 years instead of paid all at one time. That was why they were able to give him enough money to steer him away from football.

Had he not signed a football LOI, he wouldn't have gotten the offer he did.
