Those of us who naively place our trust in our staff evaluations would like you to educate us in exactly which kids are undeserving of a scholarship. Not just a general complaint but rather specifically BY NAME. This way we can bookmark it and check back in in 2025 or so and be impressed by your far superior HS talent evaluation skills.

Also maybe you could give us a “ can’t miss” list of a few kids who are headed elsewhere who we should have signed instead so we can compare down the road.

Thanks in advance.

I like the spirit of this thread, but I for one prefer shitty takes that age like milk to happen organically. Give it time, this board will be full of them today.

No and GFY

I am excited for Gabe Reliford, McBryde, PJ Woodland and Causey. Want to seem some more dogs on defense.

This will never stop the star gazers from complaining but I appreciate the effort.

Biggest gripes I've seen are missing on our top cb targets, which is a fact. We didn't offer the kids we took late in the recruting cycle, because we got commits from 2 kids we thought were better after in person Evals. Supposedly these kids had solid sr yrs and eaned spots. They both need to put on weight it seems, but not uncommon for cbs. If they can cover, weight will always be added to frames. Hope their awesome.

The other was dt recruiting. To which we have signed a juco who's had work ethic issues, hopefully sorted out. A de were hoping to add 20-30 good lbs in Breaux, that people seem to like. And lower rated 3 star in state who haven't heard about good or bad. Consensus has been underwhelming 1. For lsu and dline we used to get , 2. Depth chart is wide arse open. 3. Competitors are signing stronger dline classes. Doesn't mean these kids won't be good, but it's fair to say we have 0 depth, even if mason and Wingo come back. Just lost 3 dts to the portal, so the position is now razor thin after 2024 season.

Yeah ok. What we all already know.

Now give me NAMES. Not you specifically, but just anyone who has the signing day SADZ and who will have the balls to go on the record and educate us with who their superior evaluation skills would lead them to exclude.

It’s a fair request. Let’s get specific. If you want to wait until they have signed, I’m good with that.

I think the complaints/concerns are not on a individual basis, but on the class ranking as a whole. EVERY YEAR we have a glut of poster tout the argument that "stars don't matter". Yet, the data has proven over several years now that you can't win a championship without multiple top 10 ranked classes on your roster.

This class, to my understanding, is currently ranked outside of the top 10, which has incited panic. However, those panicking don't acknowledge that just because the data shows you must have multiple top 10 classes in a 4 year period to win a championship, you don't have to have EVERY year of that 4 year period be a top 10 class.

To that end, the 2021, 2022, 2023 classes were all ranked in the top 10 (according to 247). And all early indications are the 2025 class could be as well. So if this class is the only one in a 4 year period not ranked in the top 10 it's not a death knell...at all.

Defensive recruiting sucks and so does our defensive staff. BK seems okay with it

while i am interested in this type of thing as well...absolutely nothing good can come of this for LSU and for the players. probably best to leave this type of thing in your head for now.

Stop with this nonsense. Star ratings and staff evaluations are tools. Neither is the end all of selecting college athletes coming out of HS.

If you ask for this sort of stuff you should provide your list of just signed three stars that are can't miss.

Here is the reality. The life choices and direction of the lives of high school kids are notoriously difficult to gauge in almost every aspect, especially in terms of development into elite athletes. Even with that, the percentages of recruits who excel and go on to the next level favor the high star ratings A higher level of 5*s make it to the next level and get drafted in the first round than any other, next is four stars, next is 3 stars. The empirical evidence is clear as a group. But that is a group stat and coaches have to be able to decide on the specific individual.

https://www.on3.com/news/on3-data-reveals-5-star-recruits-have-63-draft-rate/

quote:

In fact, over the past five years, players ranked as five stars are 15 times more likely to get drafted vs. two stars or lower prospects. Four-star recruits over the past five years are 5.2 times more likely to get drafted over two stars and three-stars are 1.3 times more likely to get picked.

I trust the coaches but want to see more top 5 cycles when we can. I'll be tickled if we can fill the right holes with solid to better players right now and have a few of those develop into studs quickly. So I am not really bothered by a top 15 class as long as it is not the norm.

I like the class, and I wouldn’t be surprised if a 3-star or two make All-SEC at some point. Why don’t you tell us which 3-stars are going to be All-Americans, All-SEC, or starters? Sounds like you can’t wait to rub it in, and you keep wanting people to name names? At least name the usernames you’re talking about.

Yeah I’m sure it’s just a coincidence that Alabama and Georgia keep winning titles by having the best recruiting classes!

This kind of stuff falls in the "no-shite" category. This issue is that there is an extremely small number of 5-stars and lots of 3-stars and below. At that point it is about scouting and projection.

The 5-stars are generally the players that anyone can see is a great player. The others are more difficult to project.

But LSU has ten 3-stars, while Alabama and Georgia have six 3-stars. People act like LSU is loading up on 3-stars while everyone else is signing all 5 stars.

In the Top 12 classes on On3, the schools average eight 3-stars. In the Top 5 they average six 3-stars. So, we are splitting hairs here.

You're arguing with yourself. No one is suggesting recruiting rankings don't matter. But it's not a rigid statistic. There are lots of factors.

The only real gripes are we should have added 1 elite player at corner and DT to complement what we took. I have no problem with any player we signed this year. Plus still have the portal.
