Simply a title on a piece of paper. Orgeron reminds me of a politican. He is a great recruiter. I'm glad he's at LSU. I have no doubt that he will bolt on LSU at his first opportunity to be a head coach again. Again, I'm glad he's at LSU, but I wouldn't trust a word that comes out of the guy's mouth.

LSU coaches are so sketchy. I mean, what kind of person would leave their position of Dline coach to become a head coach?

The sheer nerve of the act makes my blood boil.

You're an idiot.

Some folks in here need to read "Meat Market". It might not be a noticeable upgrade but Orgeron is definitely just as good as Wilson. Who do yall think taught Wilson, along with Hugh Freeze, the game of recruiting?

Upgrade? Yes because Coach O will place more emphasis on the line of scrimmage, where championships are won!

We should give him as many random titles as possible to keep him here as DL coach and continue to raise his salary.

Frank was awesome, Ed O is awesome. I don't have any idea how to rate one above the other, but it'd probably be a push if I did.

but I think recruiting coordinator should be someone who is an off the field personnel person.

There's a lot of work involved in recruiting coordinator.

Really? Well is that what Frank Wilson was? And how did that turn out for him?

Worked out fine for Frank... but as Duckie mentioned on pg 2: "Austin was the go to guy for Wilson. He managed the entire board and future recruits."

I'm sure Frank would've managed fine without Austin, but having capable assistants to delegate tasks to is immensely helpful... There's hundreds of players, parents and coaches that LSU has to routinely reach out to in some capacity to maintain positive relationships-- and that's in state alone. Then there's evaluating film and tracking stats and progress of players on the field and in the classroom. Then there's planning visits to recruits, from recruits, planning activities and availability of other personnel for activities, etc. I can assure you-- as great as Frank was-- he didn't do this by himself on top of his coaching duties.

What sucks is that we lost Austin to USC, so not only did we lose Frank, but lost his right-hand man, as well.

Orgeron is a pro, so he will be fine. "He just needs to get himself an Austin Thomas" as JesuitBlueJay mentioned. But, even better, as Duckie suggests, would be to develop a support staff under Orgeron. This board goes nuts every time some coveted recruit says they liked LSU, but stopped hearing from them or don't hear from them often. A bigger, well trained staff to help with all of the admin duties involved with basic communications, scheduling & evaluations that the recruiting coordinator is responsible for would help Orgeron and the other coaches have more time for meaningful contact with more recruits.

Not sure why some people were giving Duckie a hard time on this concept, though I wouldn't be too surprised if a couple of them were UA recruiting support staff carrying out their trolling duties on social media.

He's already had numerous chances to bolt. Also, some head coach interest.
I've known Ed for over 2 decades(from the same area). I've never had reason to believe he's like a politician or not a man of his word.

I think you're missing my point. I'm not saying it shouldn't go to O. I'm ecstatic it is O. I do wish we how more personnel to support him and delegate things too. Frank was lucky enough to have Austin Thomas there to help him. IMO, the hiring of Austin's replacement is just as important now as placing O in the recruiting coord. position.

So again, for all those who are arguing with me or calling me dumb, I'm not against O being in that position. I just want a supporting cast around him and someone like Austin Thomas is a very very very rare talent. They don't come along every day.

Losing Austin, even though most people don't know who he is, was very bad for LSU. Most knew it was coming, but most thought he would leave for the NFL. It stings to lose him to another college. But he and Frank are responsible for maintaining the recruiting board when Les let people like Kragthorpe, Chavis, Haley and Stud hang around. Without Austin there it would have been overwhelming for Wilson.

There is a reason why Thomas left shortly after Wilson. Wilson stays at LSU, so does Thomas.

LSU needs to shell out more for recruiting purposes. I have no idea why we can't cut Cam down to maybe 900k-1 mill and use part of the rest or the rest, to add on to the recruiting budget. There needs to be more boots on the ground if we are going to stay up with the big boys. We've been blessed with some truly great in state classes, but the classes we've had recently in state are not normal.

2014 was top heavy and 2016 was deep and that's not something you can plan on having every year. Plus if TAMU and Texas ever get right, it's going to be a blood war for Louisiana and Texas recruits. We need to branch out into Cali and Bama and up north in NJ and Ohio in addition to what we have going on in E Texas and Florida.
