What a great kid and what a great family. All the talent in the world wrapped in an humble, laser-focused, mindset with the work ethic to make it happen. Congrats to Dylan and his family as well. You guys have done (and, are doing) it right. I hope I'm around to see you make history in the Tiger uniform. Gonna' be great...

Seriously, has a freshman EVER been given a 5 star since the inception of the star system?

Someone like Clowney, was he even rated above a 2 star at the same age?

I don't remember Peterson and perilloux being elite enough as freshman to be named 5 stars.

Because none of the ratings systems were willing to acknowledge talent that young doesn't mean there haven't been players that would warrant it.

Moses being rated this early is a product of both his talent, and the progression of the "recruiting industry".

Well of course and these early ratings will only be given to the most elite of athletes. Only guys with insane production and measurables will obtain a status like this as a freshman. It also helps that he is going to all these big events to stay in people's minds. IMO after watching Fournette's freshman video, I think they would have given him 5 stars early too.

He's still around. He posted in the Jamie Newberg article thread the other day.

They may have to create a 6th star just for him!

Is Moses the biggest recruit in LSU history?

I think Herman Johnson might have been the biggest. Dylan will be a bigger deal than any recruit we ever had before. Not even Buga himself was this profiled at Dylan's age.

The willingness of a ratings company to rate a freshman prospect now versus four years ago has more to do with that than how highly thought of Fournette was as a freshman.

Truth be told Fournette was the most highly touted freshman in the country back then

While I do agree that Dylan is more "profiled" at this age than LF was. LF was still a big time prospect as a freshman and was offered by LSU and Alabama mid way through his freshman season. Through his 1st 4 games in high school as a freshman, LF had 957 yards and 13 TDs on just 95 carries. After his 4th game of going over 200 yards, LSU and Bama offered. And when they did, it was a big deal.

And, social media has grown a lot since then. I mean a lot. And it seems like teams are starting to recruit prospects at a younger age. And nobody really knew about LF until he played varsity football. People knew about Moses when he was in middle school. And more middle school players are popping up all over the country and getting offers from major programs.

And it all just started happening these past 2 years or so. Its just how the recruiting world has evolved. Its the nature of the beast.

He was. And as I mentioned earlier, this is not to take away from Dylan's accomplishment, but the progression of the 'industry' has made it more acceptible to give him a rating this early.

In a sense, Fournette may have helped paved the way for this to happen.

But it's not like they're just throwing out there randomly. They weren't just picking anyone to make the first freshman five star. It's a combo of having someone deserving, and the 'industry' supporting such a thing.

We need to understand that WE have had a role in this too. Hype, hype, hype. Parents, fans, social media, websites making big bucks on what middle school kids are thinking at the moment. We helped create this monster.

Hype? what Hype? go read the past posts about Dylan's offers. the public did everything but wish death on my son(and a few might have done that as well). I agree that the emergence of Fournette paved the way for Dylan but Dylan also has put in a major amount of work against some of the best talent in the country to warrant these early awards. He also killed his freshman season which ultimately ended in a trip to the state title game. So, no it wasn't Hype it was effort and you my friend had absolutely nothing to do with that.
