Another guy who reached out to the LSU coach's only to commit to bama a few weeks later was Johny Dwight as well. I don't know much about his recruitment except that he actually called our coaches. So if were making conspiracy theories I wonder if that was done to try to put our attention on him and pull away from some of our d tackle recruits?

D Tackle IMO was prob. our biggest need for this class.

and who was a DT we were waiting to snag on NSD? Valentine and Trey LMFAO

Bama trying to submarine some shite.

Look at the timeline. Hootie commits to bama. LSU goes after even better safety and makes serious headway. Hootie decommits and reaches out to LSU. LSU does not answer. Adams gets more and more pro LSU, and pulls the trigger Jan 2. Hootie recommits to bama that night.

I think it's pretty clear that Hootie never had any intention of going to LSU when he "decommitted" from Alabama.

IF this is really taking place.....you have to believe it will blow up in some faces soon enough.

Just let one of these guys get mistreated or no playing time.

To be continued, if true.

There's no rule against this. It's clear that it's happening. Kiffin is the first to do it so blatantly with Janzen Jackson delaying signing and lying so LSU would miss out on him and Darren Myles. Myles would have signed with LSU had he known Jackson was going to UT.

These bullshite "silent commits" are part of the problem. Give us an early signing period and at least some of the shenanigans will be reduced.

Yeah, I think it could be a pretty big risk for the recruit playing the games for one school against another. You never know when he might actually get left out there hanging on a limb with nowhere to go.

I cannot believe that "Hootie sabatoge" theory. That's silly to believe Saban would risk losing a recruit to get him to feign interest in another school. Why not just have him remain uncommitted and string LSU out until NSD?

I believe the other theory that Hootie was told by Bama freshmen (Kamara) that if they had to do it over again they wouldn't sign with Bama, and that gave him second thoughts.

There was never any risk.

Ok.

It's an elaborate, Machiavellian type theory and I'm not saying it's impossible. I just think it's not the most likely reason behind those events that went down with Hootie Jones.

If anyone accused LSU of those types of shenanigans, we would all laugh at them.

It is more simple than that. Hootie decommited because he decided he made a bad decision and LSU is where he wanted to be. He expected LSU to respond, but they already moved on to better things. As the season progressed, the film clearly displayed that Adams was the superior player. Hootie no longer had a commitable offer from LSU when he got cold feet for Bama. Hootie said in the Monroe paper that he did not hear back from LSU after he showed interest in them.

Aren't greyshirts usually instate?

How much is OOS tuition for bama?

Pretty sure he decommitted bc of the bama backups telling everyone Saban was a dick and didn't care about the backup players that weekend when hootie had his OV

They've been processed. One was a really good RB iirc

In other words, he wanted LSU to chase behind him.

It should be added Hootie "reached out" through third parties. Doesn't anyone find that strange considering that it was, if I recall correctly, during a period that the staff could not call him at all per rules!! If Hootie was truly interested and wanted to reconsider, why did Hootie NOT call the LSU staff himself??!!

That is not accurate. Phone calls from coaches to players are allowed during a dead period. The only thing banned is face to face contact with the recruit or his family. Phone calls, e-mails and text messages are allowed.

Hootie or his representatives reached out to the LSU coaching staff and the calls were not returned. There is a bit more to the story but the bottom line is the LSU staff decided to move on after Hootie committed to Alabama and they were not interested in reopening his recruitment.

This would mean something, except Laurence had sent in Financial Aid paperwork with both schools, thus allowing unlimited contact.

he seemed more like a silent commitment.

LSU was frankly fortunate that 1/2 was not closer to signing day. People freaked out over not getting 4 or 5 of the 5 stars that were being recruited but they recovered in time to close up an extraordinary class one month later.
