Defensive Tackle... pressing need?

Last year we didn't take one, the year before that we took three (The 2 Johnsons and QuentinThomas) and the year before that just one (Ego). And couple of these guys seem to have the potential to be out of here in 2 years. Early entries into the draft of injuries to a couple of these guys could create real problems with our defense.

I know Tevin Lawson is committed, but this would seem to be an area we need to replenish with some quality talent... and quickly.

What's the recruiting experts take on how many DT's we sign this year?

Gilmore and that's it. Apparently the coaches are comfortable with Mickey Johnson, Quentin, Ego, and Freak with the incoming Lawson+probably Gilmore.

Logan is probably gone after this year and the only other draft eligible guy is Ego as a RS Sophomore.

I'm with you though, I'm surprised LSU isn't aiming for 3 DTs in this class. They must be real comfortable with what they already have...

Probably just one more this year, Gilmore or Pagano.

Lawson is the best DT in state right? Espn has him listed as a OG

Just curious, but what's the talent level of the in-state 2014 DT's? I could see only taking 2 this year if there are 2 quality guys next year.

Lawson isn't going to OL. He is a beast on the DL already. Wait until he gets more comfortable there

Lawson will show is worth at DT. Hasnt even played a full season on defense yet. I still think coaches like what we have, which boades well for guys like mj and qt. Not so sure they dont already have guys that will move inside if depth gets thin during season.

Pressing need, no. Need, yes. We'll take at least 1 more but likely 2 if the right 2. Ftr, I don't believe Crayton is a guy they really are considering taking at this point. I think we'd have to strike out on both Gilmore and Pagano or have an available spot from missing on another position.

I think 2-3 next year. Instate is looking like a 2-3 man battle at DT but it's hard to tell this early who will get offers. Couple of years ago at this time we all though Jacoby Briscoe was a sure offer but it never happened. Have to be patient on DL guys. Haley is a guy that is kind of choosey with his offers.

While it isn't likely he signs with us, we will be 1 of 3 OV's for Montravious Adams during the season (along with Oregon and USC). Lawson and Gilmore may be all we sign this year by way of DT's. It will be interesting to see how Lawson plays his 1st full year as a DT; he could explode.

I think they'll take 2.

Gilmore + Crayton or Pagano.

well, adding Dodd almost guarantees Lawson is going to be DL.... if they had any thought of switching him, they would add ANOTHER C/G... Malone, Boutte and now Dodd as possible G's, no reason to move Lawson at this point... much more need on DL..

not very good.... will almost assuredly have to go out of state to fill that position, with the big kid from Buckeye being the only real possibility at this point to get an offer and that's if guys ahead of him go elsewhere early....

What makes everyone think Gilmore is such a lock? I know he stated LSU was his #1 quite a while ago, but I haven't heard anything more about him.

I can't speak for anyone else but I feel more confident simply because (despite my wishes) we aren't apparently going hard after a bunch of other guys at DT!

It should be quiet on the Gilmore front until he takes his last 3 visits. I believe in August so don't worry about hearing news until then. He is planning on visiting bama with his dad and Florida with his dad. And visiting LSU with his mom. From what I understand it seems like Florida is his #3 but his moms # 1. Bama is his two but mom likes Florida so I think mom is keeping Florida right above bama though I think he likes bama a bit more than FL. But here why I think we are safe. He seems to really like LSU and I believe Pops is on board with him coming here but mom has been to the other two but not LSU. Les Miles is a great closer with the family and once Gilmore brings her down to see the campus/city and talk to the staff/professors and especially Miles then she will give her son the ok to go with his favorite which I believe is LSU. No certainties in recruiting but I like our chances. Pretty sure I got this correct?

I want Crayton. He is a tackling machine and stronger than Mickey was.

If Bennie Logan has a bang up year and goes pro, then we will be left with only 5 DTs for 2013.

I can't see LSU not trying to grab Pagano AND Gilmore.

Rotating DL's was the crux of the LSU defense, last year.

Add in the 'want' for more DE's and DB's and it looks like we are heading for 26 or 27 commits.
