Was Cecil also the best player in the country?

Collins averaged over 8 yards per carry (off the top of my head but I'm sure that's right).........in college. Think about that.

The only comparison I can think of for Collins would be
Secretariat.

It was not a large body of work, but he was as good as anybody has been at that position.

INB4 they guy in the Hilliard thread says Hill is better than The Diesel and Fournette.

Even Hill's criminal accomplishments are nothing compared to Diesel's.

But seriously. Collins rushed for 3,046 yards and 40 TDs to lead Leesville to the 4A finals. A lot of people dismiss how good he was because he was held in check in the title game and Leesville got smoked.

BUT ...

How has Leonard done in the Dome (he hasn't been)?

And THREE THOUSAND yards and FORTY TDs. Chew on those numbers for a few minutes before you dismiss Cecil's high school career. Cecil was sort of lost out there in central Louisiana and didn't get the exposure Fournette gets. A lot of people saw him play once, in the Superdome when he was successfully defended by Salmen (73 yards) in a 39-7 loss.

But Fournette was held to 100 yards on 25 carries by Karr in a loss in the quarterfinals and hasn't been to the dome. And I'd argue Leonard's St. Aug teams are better than Cecil's Leesville teams. Aug's got some talent. Leesville kind of rode Cecil as far as it could go and might not have been a .500 team without him. They're also comparable in that they are both 4A schools (though Aug's playing up now).

So edge right now to Cecil. But Fournette still has a senior season to play and if he has a special year, he'll be the greatest, I think.

Just like anywone would have a point if they argued these Karr teams are better than those Salmen teams.

Fournette's stats would be much better if they gave him more carries, but wouldn't you rather them not ride him into the ground before he gets to LSU?

LF is taller and bigger. Collins was shorter and compact.
LF takes big plays all the way to the house. Cecil lives in the Big House.

They are not even in the same world. LF is one of those rare guys with size, moves, hands, top speed, and power. I don't remember seeing CC being that fast.

FWIW, if you get to see JH33 this year he is the closest thing in CFB to LF. TJY4 at Bama would be up there too. It is not just the power or speed but when you add in the "hips on a swivel" the combination is what separates him from the field.

I think the best comparison for LF is Eric Dickerson. He's got a great cut move, just sticks that foot in the ground, drops his hips, and accelerates straight up field, just like Dickerson used to do.

He doesn't have Dickerson's graceful strides but he might be faster.

The only clips I've seen of LF clearly show he is dominating at the HS level but his shake and his tackle breaking ability don't seem "elite". That said, please come to LSU and prove me wrong. [/quote]

What are you high? Every clip of Fournette I have seen he is breaking tackles and taking it to the house with elite speed. Every aspect of the dudes game is elite. That's why he is the best prospect in the country and maybe would have been in last yrs recruiting class too! He's an absolutely dominating back that Louisiana has not seen in yrs!

Collins was the best. LF has a chance to show equal or greater talent, but at this point, it is all an assertion until he does something in the SEC

I thought Collins had the potential to be the greatest back in LSU history....
