I mean Under Les there are currently 6 LSU linebackers playing in the NFL. There will be 7 after this year.

kwon alexander
perry riley
kevin sheppard
kevin minter
lamin barrow
deion jones
Kendell Beckwith -this year

Hell under Saban the only one i remember doing anything was bradie james after college. Les has 6 .LSU is quietly turning out some quality LB's into the nfl. This can only help in getting Moses and even the guys alabama wants right?

That list (although that is all LSU has to offer) is a weak presentation for the discussion of a school "recruiting itself" at LB.

First of all, you need that big time LB recruit whose name is mentioned nonstop on ESPN and each game. Then you need him drafted high in rd 1. Once you get that, you use him to recruit the next guy to be "said LB superstar". That only primes the pump and as long as you keep building off that, you'll then the position will recruit itself.

LSU DB position recruits itself due to Patrick Peterson the the Honey Badger. Every DB at LSU wants to be the next Honey Badger.

Peterson, Claiborne, Reid, Mathieu come to find when I think of a group that "recruits itself."

I don't know what you mean by "recruit itself". I'm sure Saban would be surprised to find out that Bama recruits itself, and he's. Ern wasting all that work he and his staff put into recruiting.

The reason Bama gets #1 classes is because of Saban, not Bama. He outworks everybody else in the business.

LSU is not Alabama when it comes to recruiting itself. Not sure why people continue to think LSU is on par with the Bamas Ohio States and USC's of the college football recruiting world. Its no accident that Saban left Miami and took the Bama job when it opened. He wouldve never accomplished what he did anywhere else. Same with Urban Meyer. The illness suddenly went away when the Buckeye job came available? These schools whenever they have a great coach have a tremendous advantage. Its a tribute to Miles that hes fought off Saban on most of the instate talent even with Saban coaching at LSU for 5 years. Some of these classes that Bama put together recently were just sick.

Ohio state is putting one together this year.

Louisiana produces DBs and Wrs. Linebackers, OL and especially Qbs recently have been the difference in the 2 schools. Cameron was Miles answer for QB. Grimes for OL. Hopefully Aranda is the fix for big time LBs.

CJ Mosley, Rolando McClain, Dontae Hightower, Reggie Ragland, etc. When LSU can get a stable of players like that then they will be able to draw LBs on the level of Alabama.

He was referring to LBers Saban coached while at LSU.

LSU is a national brand and to me it is only getting stronger each year. I could be completely wrong but I think our LBers have held their own against what Alabama's LBers have done in the NFL.

No school recruits itself. None. If a school has a coaching staff comprised of bad recruiters, then they won't sign a bunch of 5 stars just by name alone. This is why schools like Bama, LSU, FSU, Ohio State, etc. hire so many great recruiters. No coincidence they're among the elite of the sport.

Has anybody kept up with guys like Clifton Garrett, Ronnie Feist, or Melvin Jones since leaving LSU?

+1

And there's no comparison. Bama has a highly drafted linebacker on what seems like a yearly basis. You know how we claim "DBU?" Yeah, well, Bama is "LBU" and it's not even close. IMO

As I told many, Alabama recruits LB's that are more like quick DL that Charlie liked to recruit; when it comes time to go to the pro level and play they for the most part will fail the test.

Everyone once in a while you will have a player of that type that is an A.J. Duhe, who played DL at LSU and went to the pros and played LB.

Pro football has changed much over 50+ years I have watched it, line play is the one that has changed the most.

If Aranda stays long enough to build this defense up we will be at or near the level of bama and maybe better when you combine the front seven. It will take a few years to get to their level of depth but if he stays I think LSU's defense will get its size back but also have very athletic guys with speed. Like Anthony and the other linebacker from Tx we got. They have the body to build on and play fast at 255/265 lbs and 6'3 6'4. We just need more of them and we getting more this year. Our D will be back very soon. Our backfield is already there so we will have a better over D in a couple years imo. GT
