dude you really hate video games

I don't really put much stock in forty times either, but two feet of separation can be huge for a deep threat receiver

if you think a .2 second differential in a 40 time will keep a player from getting an offer,

I don't think a 40 time is the end all be all because there have been good WR that do not have 4.4 40's but those .2 sec definitely can give a player a huge advantage. 2 feet of separation between a WR and a CB is a lot.

Well I love how you use probably the greatest exception for a WR and speed, but if you look anywhere or do any type of solid research, you will find that Jerry Rice ran a 4.6 or 4.59 something like that, which isn't considered top end speed for an elite WR. The forty is a measuring tool for an athlete it can be roughly translated to the football field. Combining his physical measurements plus game film or scouting time you see if that(40) is a true measurement of the athletes speed. Yes Jerry ran the forty slower than a track star, but he had probably the best in game speeds of any WR ever, FUNCTIONAL SPEED. Would I want a 4.6 receiver with football speed and he caught every fricking ball thrown to him (jerry rice) or a track star? I want the RECEIVER not the track star. So no xavier carter not greater than Jerry Rice. But Cameron Sims is not JERRY RICE. This concludes your scouting tutorial for the day!

FUNCTIONAL SPEED

now you're just making shite up...

And I read that whole damn block of text and I can't figure out which side of the argument you're on...

And btw, 40 speed and whatever the frick 'functional football speed' is are two different things... I've probably not watched as much football as you sir, but I've never seen a WR or DB get down in a sprinters stance...

No, I didn't realize that. I hope you realize it's a 40 YARD dash and not a 40 FOOT dash.

ummm do you not know how to convert YARDS into FEET?

let me help you:

There are 3 feet in a yard... so by my calculations, there are 120 feet in 40 yards right?

So if someone runs 120 feet in 4.4 seconds as opposed to someone who runs it in 4.7 seconds, there is a difference of about 2 feet...

Do the math bro

Well I bet Kevin Dyson wishes he had that .2 seconds? O well he was only TWO FOOT short!!

and I don't think just a .2 sec differential between two players will keep one from getting a scholarship over the other. Take any Two recruits set all the physical attributes the same besides speed and one is faster than the other. Your team would be filled with the slower guys?

If you've ever put on a pair of football pads you know that what you ran in gym shorts is alot different from what you will run in pads. Jerry was one of the fastest guys to play the game in football pads. I'm done with y'all now! You know I'm right and that was a very uninformed comment to post. .2 sec isn't everything but it sure doesn't hurt.

I guess my dad was right..

You can't argue with a dumbass... They'll drag you down to their level and then beat you with functional football experience

Kevin dyson didn't need more speed, he needed to run a better route dipshit

Do the math bro

How do you explain elementary math to an innumerate?

Person A runs 120 ft in 4.4 sec. That is roughly 27.3 ft/sec.

Person B runs 120 ft in 4.7 sec. That is roughly 25.5 ft/sec.

The difference is 1.74 (less than 1.8 implied because of roundoff) ft/sec. After 4.4 sec, A will be like 7.7 ft ahead of B.

In reality the difference is actually greater because you are running faster at the end than you are at the beginning.

Is the math too tough bro?

Damn, he's right.

It comes out to over seven feet of separation assuming constant speed.

physics boom?

Yea I knew there had to be a reason a 4.5 would get you drafted much higher than a 4.7. Assuming everything else is equal of course. It is a big difference. Especially in a game where inches matter.

Yea. I was about to post this just to prove the math. Anyone who has ever run a forty next to someone with 4.4 speed knows they beat you by way more than 2 feet. In my case 4.8 Ha. I Would get beat by more than a couple yards. It's not just math, it's common sense.
