Why not let him play his first minute of college basketball before making ridiculous conjecture.

of course he isn't a complete player at this moment, but his size & ball handling are NBA caliber right now. That alone pretty much guarantees him a spot in the league.

if he ever develops a shot he will be great(and he will, but it may be 5 years from now).. But that tends to come later for a guy that can score so easily in other ways like Simmons (and Lebron for example) has been able to do. Why shoot when you can make layups?

LeBron and Simmons have an eerily similar game...I really am convinced this is going to be what LeBron could've been at Ohio State.

He wouldn't even be the first. Magic Johnson played point guard at 6'9" and did pretty decent if I remember. I, however, agree with the person who said he be used like LeBron. A SF who facilitates the offense.

Slow ya roll, OP. He is not playing the 1 in the NBA. He has the makings of an elite 3. Taking the ball up the court doesn't make you a 1. Who you can and do defend determines your position as much as your dribbling acumen and court vision.

This isn't to take anything away from Benny, but this thread is kind of silly.

That's pretty much what Magic was. Magic was a point forward, not a 1.

somewhat, id agree. People have thrown out Lebron and Odom, and i think he is combination of both.

He has Odom's offense game at this point, which in a vacuum is pretty average but still plenty effective given his size. They also possess similar passing abilities, which is above average.

But he is much more mobile with the ball then what Odom was. Which makes him closer to Lebron in that regard. His speed with the ball & dexterity > Odom. But he isnt quite as good offensively as Lebron was at this time.

ETA: damn that reads pretty confusingly

Lol why all the laughs? He can definitely run the offense & guard a wing. I hope the team that drafts him doesn't want him to average 25-30 PPG. Just doesn't look like his game.

First, he will never be the point of a good NBA team. Second, he's far from what he will be when he becomes an NBA player, so you can not possibly know whether he will or won't average 25-30 ppg. Most importantly, Ben is not and never will be similar to LeBron. LeBron's 2 biggest attributes are his size and speed. Ben will never be as big and strong or as fast as Lebron has been these several years. Stop trying to analyze these basketball players and just let them entertain you.

How is it that those players may come back as juniors after playing in final four but Mickey goes pro after missing so many free throws in a row in the first round? Money doesn't matter for them? Is it LSU players or fans who have poor man's mentality?

I bet you almost went pro huh?

Injury or was it a coach with a personal vendetta that prevented you from the majors?

Regardless, were all blessed to have your wealth of knowledge on this forum

so funny how people talk shite to other people online when you have no clue who I am. I could be an obese 5th grader who's never picked up a bat or I could've spent 10 years in the major leagues or anything inbetween, why would you take a chance on sounding like a jackass if my career fell closer to the latter end of the spectrum than the former?

Setting me aside though, you know there's an extremely successful MMA fighter with 10k posts here and more than a handful of ex LSU/pro athletes, right? My point was that not everybody on this forum pulls their sports knowledge straight out of their assholes and it's always interesting to see the keyboard warrior crowd such as yourself act like smartasses to people like the OP and derail a thread when he obviously knows what he's talking about to some degree.

Your high school sports or Juco/DIII college sports experience doesn't give you some distinct knowledge no one else could understand. People that act like that matters are pretty sad and it usually underlies some serious issues in their own lives. 99% of this board falls under that category.

The fact that OP is claiming Simmons is an NBA PG, and you defend him by saying "he clearly has some knowledge", shows me that you both fall in the 99%. I don't care about your glory days of high school athletics, you should probably stop telling people around you about them as well (free life tip, you're welcome).

Anyway, back to OP. Please tell me how Simmons projects to the NBA as a PG better than a SF?

y'all are trying too hard. The thread was meant for discussion. Everyone just laughs & doesn't say anything. So I assume you never played. And now I have serious issues. Okay dude, y'all win.

But what is the definition of pg?. The smallest guy on the team? I think he's gonna be a pg because he'd rather pass than shoot & he's good at it. He looks for the open team mate before he looks for the open lane to penetrate. If he does penetrate & beat his man, he will pass off to a team mate if their defender comes over to help. Most SF will go up for the dunk/layup/foul. In p&r, he waits for his picker to make his decision (roll or pop) before he makes his. If If they switch & leave mismatches (big on guard) he'll pass to the big in the post before trying to beat his man off the dribble. He's a facilitator, not just a big guy that can pass. He's 6'8 or 6'9 & pretty athletic but he's not a scorer. Not sure what's so funny or why I have serious issues because you TD coaches & scouts can't see that.
