Even at "#2".. A lot of people are seriously underestimating Simmons' impact on LSU. And if he has to stay for two seasons? Holy shite.

I've said it for a while now, he will end the process as the #1 recruit and he will get drafted #1 in 2016 NBA draft.

Do we have any shot with Newman?

I don't think we are gonna get Newman. Simmons is working Owens and I like our chances with him. I don't think we get another top 10 type guy but possibly another top 50 that we don't really know about right now.

Alex Owens from Florida? Looks like Louisiana has a few borderline top 50 players in Sampson, Fraizer, and Thompson.

Thanks for the info.

2 year rule will be in play by that time

I doubt it. Even if, he will probably be eligible due to age. He is older for his grade.

Right now i think the class looks like:

Ben Simmons
Alex Owens
Brandon Sampson
Chad Lott

I think that would be a slam dunk class. If we can pull another big name that would be awesome but those 4 would be a really exciting group.

Let me comment on all kinda stuff...

1) Malik Newman was unusually passive this weekend. I don't have a clue why. I'll watch closer in Minnesota for sure. Right now, he's moved outside my Top 5 in the Class of 2015.

2) Ben Simmons is everything Jarell Martin wishes he was and that is no knock on Jarell at all. I think Jarell will be Lotto next draft. Ben Simmons is amazing though. Beyond skilled.

3) Ben Simmons Effect - Do some research and you'll find LSU on some high profile recruits list. Trust me, these kids are watching him and how well he passes (and willing). They want to play with him. I think Alex Owens is LSU to lose at this point. Antonio Blakeney plays with E1T1 and has mention LSU interest among others. Will be tough but those two are probably closer friends than AO and Ben.

4) Sampson/Lott - I put these two together to say they shouldn't be. Sampson has a ton of upside but man I don't see it in Lott. He's explosive but nagging knee injury is not good (hopefully growing). Idk if LSU really wants Lott but they are doing their due diligence anyway. Hope he decides to go elsewhere for sake of both parties.

5) This class of 2015 will be at least 5 deep... Simmons, Owens, Sampson, BIG NAME, SLEEPER ... bookmark this to call me out if I am wrong. Just a hunch (not based on anything I KNOW concrete before I get asked).

From what I've seen on Lott I do like him, but the injury thing is rough. I love his attitude. He seems like a solid person, but if he isn't going to be able to contribute I hope he goes somewhere that he will.

I agree that we are on some big recruits because Simmons. Will be awesome and Im hoping we pull some serious talent in 2015.

If JJ can't do anything with the teams he is gonna have in the future then he sucks as a coach. We are gonna be part of the BIG 3 in the SEC for yrs to come if JJ can make it happen and coach these guys up!

I knew Newman was a long shot, but I'd kill to have CJJ sign a top 10-20 guard to go w/ Simmons. Plus a guard is more likely to stay a few years due to not being a lotto pick.

This is the key to making that class special IMO.

I think the staff's going to look elsewhere for sure, and Lott probably won't be able to rely on an available spot in our class. He becomes a priority if Johnny can't find a better guard elsewhere. FWIW, I'd like to see Lott get an opportunity here though.

Sampson has so much talent, but man he disappears in games sometimes. When he's hot, he's hot. But when he's cold....whew. He was taken completely out of several games I saw this year.

Not trying to knock the dude. He is a natural and he plays so smoothly. Got a beautiful shot too. But if talented high schoolers can keep him quiet, so can the SEC
