You saw that horrible boxscore too, huh? He has really come along since I first saw him as a freshman, but I think the term "raw' still applies to him. He's a great athlete and should defend and rebound well. That alone will make him a high major signee. But the offense still has a ways to go.

another take on D Jones

Julius Randle gets most of the attention for Team Texas Titans, but Damian Jones was a breakout player over the weekend. He is a very good shot blocker and is active down low.

Damien Jones enters the Rivals database as a 3-star.

He was previously in there incorrectly listed as Damian James and unranked. After his recent stellar play in the AAU tournaments, Rivals has corrected his bio and ranked him as a 3-star.

I believe a solid senior season could easily see him as a 4-star, top 100 player.

A 6'7 Forward from Dallas commited to Mizzou tonight. He claims an LSU offer. Wondering if anyone here knew anything about him.

quote:

Tyrek Coger (PF/C 6-8, 240) Raleigh, NC, Upper Room Christian. Unranked on Rivals, 3-star on Scout, former Missouri commitment. Also has an offer from VCU. Interest from LSU, Kentucky, Baylor, Clemson, Marquette, Georgetown and many others.

Commited and de-commited from Missouri 3 times

He had an offer from our previous staff, but I do not believe our current staff is recruiting him.

Basically, there's never been anywhere but up for Damien Jones' stock to go. A little known big man from Baton Rouge (La.) Scotlandville Magnet entering the weekend, the 6-foot-9 junior's play for the Texas Titans opened up several eyes. He's not just big, long and athletic either. Jones hits jump-hooks with either hand, can run the floor and loves to contest shots. He looks like a sure bet to enter the 2013 Rivals150 when it next gets updated, probably in the four-star range.

My predicition is that Damien Jones ends up being the highest ranked player in Louisiana, moving ahead of Martin and Bridgewater.

There were about 6 major tournaments this weekend around the country and they hit most of them. They were at that event, but may have been there Friday or Sunday when you were not there.

Are you speaking of the Nike EYBL in Hampton?

I can see him moving ahead of Bridgewater (strugglin in EYBL) but no chance he moves ahead of Jarell Martin. Kid is still performing.

With Jones moving into a starting role at Scotlandville, he could have a huge senior year. Lots of room for movement. I think Martin jumped out high early and is maybe maxed out on his ranking. Could drop.

Also, I am speaking strictly of rankings, which are BS anyway.

Martin came out of nowhere last summer to pass up Bridgewater. Jones will do the same this summer, but I don't think he passes Martin. Both Martin/Jones both end up 4-start recruits.

I think it is more to do with our open schollies, no big man, coaches being highly active on the recruiting front and spring semester ending, getting down to crunch time on signing more bodies. Could be wrong, but I say we get someone soon

XOfan.com interviews Julius Randle's mom:

quote:

XOFan.com: What schools are high on his list?

CK: let me put it like this. He doesn’t have a list of schools right now. We are going to sit down and let him select which schools he likes later after summer play is over.

XOFan.com: We heard he use to workout with players at North Texas like Tony Mitchell and he like LSU Coach Johnny Jones?

CK: Yes, he did go over and workout with the guys at North Texas. We like Coach Jones who is at LSU but we are going to sit down and see how this is going to workout with Julius after this summer.
