I want Kenny Young, tackling machine, but I think he is more suited at Sam than Mike.

You and me both. The 7 LBers signed in 2012 have basically confirmed what Gerry Dinardo always said...not a great coach but hit this one on the head, "it isn't the ones you lose that kill you but the ones you sign that don't contribute."

Kwon Alexander is the star of the LBer corps but that is pretty much it from that class. Granier is gone....Fiest I think will transfer....Phillips is on a milk carton somewhere. D Jones had a better FR season than SO one. Lamar Louis is probably the 2nd best of the group, bit it seems to me that John Chavis went "hybrid LBer happy". As far as the original ?, I am VERY concerned. The LBer play this season was about equal to a HS team. I apologize to high schools everywhere.

IMO, Clifton Garrett is a MUST have...right up there with Fournette and a couple of others. On his clips, he looks more physical than ANY LBer currently playing for LSU in that unit!

It's crazy, but this speed over size thing is starting to get on my nerves.

It's like all the best guys go to DE and nickel packages. Whatever's left gets a look at Lber.

Alexander. Clifton Garrett Deion Jones

That'd be a hell of a LB corps...on paper at least

That was pretty much one of my points. Chavis has gone a little over the edge with this "hybrid LBer" thing IMO. Is it great for teams with no power running game? Yes! But how about Georgia...how about Alabama...how about Auburn? The LSU defense made Tre Mason, IMO an average SEC starting RB at best, look like Earl Campbell in his prime. The LSU LBers were being taken for a ride everytime they contacted him other than K Alexander and S Corey Thompson. Mason was listed at 205 pounds on the Auburn roster!!! C'mon, Chavis, you need at least a couple of guys who can bench press their own weight! That is why IMO Garrett is right at the top of the list of LSU recruits. Just as Fournette is a MUST sign at the RB position. Garrett is a MUST sign for MLB. Otherwise, LSU LBers are going to get dragged along for the ride just like this season.

BTW, I heard an analyst say something I completely agree with. Notice how the defenses everywhere are having trouble putting quality guys out there...LSU...A&M...Georgia...Auburn....etc. The problem he said is that since the opening up on offenses in HS, the better athletes more than ever are being shifted over to the offensive side. DE/DT become OL...LBers become TEs...secondary guys if they can catch are WRer, etc.

I'm assuming Welter has the speed of trindon holiday for him to be played so much. Meanwhile a stud LB'er Beckwith sits on the bench.

Making contact is the bigger problem IMO. Welter and Barrow are constantly out-of-play.

Welter is small but he makes up for it by being slow.

Top 5 backs in the sec this year: 1.Jeremy Hill, 2.Todd Gurley, 3.Tj Yeldon, 4.Mike Davis, 5.Tre Mason. I could go to ten but I think this is pretty clear.

I firmly believe that LSU football would have been better off with some of those new guys replacing our current set of LB's. I normally defer to the coaches but I just don't see how having LL, beck, RF if not injuried, Kwon etc. would have been worse than what we have. Kwon is the only one of that new group that cracked the 1st string. I just can't see how filling the other two spots with them could have been worse.

It's funny I made a similar post in the spring about our DL. Everybody was like "whatever dude you're paranoid our DLINE will be fine next year"!! LOL.

I don't think the LB's will be that good honestly
