Making contact is the bigger problem IMO. Welter and Barrow are constantly out-of-play.

I think we are both right! It is not being strong/big enough to bring down the ball carrier AND being out of the play. No surprise, it is the same reason...not being strong enough. If you watch guys like Barrow, they are actually in the proximity of the play but he lacks one essential asset to a LBer. Barrow is horrible as disengaging from a block. The guy puts hands on him which is legal within the shoulders area, and he simply can't break free. If you can't disengage, forget about stopping the run as a LBer. As you stated, you are always going to be 3 feet away from the ball carrier.

Top 5 backs in the sec this year: 1.Jeremy Hill, 2.Todd Gurley, 3.Tj Yeldon, 4.Mike Davis, 5.Tre Mason. I could go to ten but I think this is pretty clear.

Going by stats its actually davis, mason, hill, collins, neal.

Mason may be the best back in the sec. Def between him and davis.

You can't go by stats. Hurley has been hurt for a lot of the season. Tennessee's offense is so poor that Neal gets a lot of carries. LSU on the other hand has been throwing it a lot (hence the huge numbers rung up by Beckwith and Landry). IMO, Mason is not even in the top 4 to 5 RBs in the SEC. I'm going by what I see on the field and Tre Mason simply isn't that good IMO.
