A look at a class, that you got very little out of. This class got a top 5 ranking. Thought some would like to revisit. Nice star rankings, but so much failure.

5 all SEC guys Boutte, Ricks, McGolthern, Roy, Ojulari

Cox was a good player for a year as transfer, Gaye was solid multi year starter,

Had high hopes for Sampah and Webb but injuries ruined their careers.

The biggest disappointment is hands down Arik Gilbert guy that had all the talent in the world and through 3 years of college football has never figured it out

Ed Orgeron was overrated as a recruiter.

The biggest issue is that class has provided nothing to the program as far as depth. You’ll always have high rated guys who dont pan out, but they can at least play special teams and get into the 2 deep. That class only has a few true contributors.

When you recruit 4 or 5 star players every year ..some guys are gonna get beat out …every 5 star that goes to Bama doesn’t end up playing

that’s all you can expect out of a 4 star ….a 3 star guy is depth

Not really. He was not good at evaluating talent and personnel management. And he either didn't appoint good people or didn't let them do their job.

Pure recruiting, he is great, he just needs someone pointing to a player and saying get that guy.

And when you seem to suddenly be a disinterested coach, you get 2020 & 2021 after 2019.

Transfer portal has all but obliterated every team’s depth except for a very select few.

It’s horrible what it’s doing to CFB.

It's excellent for a single class. It's those other 20 or so that make it look bad on paper. Most classes do well to do a 50% contributor rate over the 4-5 year span. That class came close if you attribute the short term contributions of guys like Ricks, Shanahan etc

That is one thing Kelly does very well. Look at the players brought in through the portal, an those players being used during the season. Remember, recruiting and talent evaluation is year round. Kelly and the staff does great with player development.
Look no further than what the two OT’s did, getting better every game. Same can be said with the TE position with Taylor. Perkins at LB. Wingo taking over for Smith, that was major.

Looking back, on the offense side of the ball, we only returned 3 starters, all WR’s. New QB, walkon RB, TE, complete makeover of the OL.

The other side, much of the same, Baskerville, Gaye, Ward and BJ.

Putting together a roster and getting this team to win the West, could anyone else accomplish this.

This is by far the worst roster Kelly should have while at LSU. It will only get better from here. Kelly would rather take high school kids and develop them into the players he wants. As for now, he has to take portal players to fill his roster.
