Brandon Harris is the real deal. The kid can throw and can run.
He is a year or two from being physically ready to handle SEC tackles.
His interview after the 5A game shows his desire to win and his football smarts. He will have an impressive career at LSU.

Everything is based on camps these days, that's where u get your stars. Stars can sometimes be sort of deceiving. Your * usually doesn't reflect your work ethic, rather your exposure. 5* athletes not only perform the best on the field, but camps as well. 3* stars usually perform very well on the field, but less exposure.

Jacob Hester was a 3* coming out of high school... What do you think?...
That settles it.

Too many variables to generalize rankings of athletes. There are plenty of physically gifted 5* athletes that bust their arses more than everyone else.
Yep. And there's plenty of 5* athletes who are 5* athletes BECAUSE they just their arse more then everyone else.

the stars are only based off of talent. Work ethic is completely different.

quote:Not necessarily. I agree in principle though. But consider that some recruits who aren't expected to qualify, no matter how talented, are ranked lower. Other factors are considered by the "experts", and I'm sure if they knew a guy had a bad work ethic, they would lower his ranking. Mostly, they don't have enough info unless it's a guy they've been watching for years.

I think a lot of 5*'s get bigheaded at times and its all about them.It takes special coaching to make that mesh.Where as 3* recruits feel they have something to prove. Also some develop early and tap out where some develop later and do good.

Some 5* athletes are athletic freaks. Others just mature a bit earlier than others and don't improve much in college.
Some 3* guys have room to mature an grow, most are above average but not elite. A few can grow into elite though.

Give me the lazy 5 star.

5 stars are diamonds. College ready to boss. There are very few for that reason. They are physically up to their college counterparts and in many aspects surpass the average college player coming out of the 12th grade.
A three star is a great football player projected to play good at the college level for the most part. With some S&C and possibly a redshirt (depending on team and talent ahead).
Some 3 stars are also unfairly evaluated.
4 stars are thrown around pretty good. But actually, I've seen more success in highly rated 4 stars then five stars. At least at LSU it SEAMS. But I could be wrong.

Good thread here.
Based off of what I have seen it looks like 5* are more physically ready to step in and play as freshman as the the other ranked players.
I think it is hard to make the assertion that one individual will work harder than another because of their differing backgrounds, goals, ambitions, focus etc.
At the High School age kids get a lot of their mental focus and work ethic from the parent(s) and guardians. If the player has elite talent and a good work ethic (support group) I think they are destined to succeed on the next level.
Of course there are exceptions though. Two come to mind. Both 4* prospects.
The first is Tharold Simon. Notoriously lazy and not a hard worker on the field at Eunice High. However, he got to the next level and became the little fish in an ocean...He saw this, worked his tail and he overcame. He succeeded.
Davante Bourque. Same issue as Tharold. Lazy in the class room, didn't practice during the week, didn't care about team. Got to the next level and has so far failed. I think he might be playing JUCO ball now,but for the most part has not been a college success. I wish the best for him.

Give me 4* players all day. They dont have the entitlement/ego issues of 5* but have the talent.

Stars are all about camp evaluations, these evaluators don't have time to sit at the computer and watch film all day. So they just evaluate the kids on their camp performances.
Most under the radar guys just didn't attend camps
Team evaluators do a much better job, they actually sit and watch every bit of film they can on their targets.

A large percentage of the 5*'s are pretty humble and down to earth. The cocky, shite don't stink guys aren't as common as you think.
