Do you guys think a 3* prospect works harder than 5* as in means of having something to prove? Also because they didn't get as much attention as the 5*

Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard.

I think being a 3* or 5* has no bearing of how hard they will work. It's completely up to the recruit itself. If they let a high or low ranking justify their work ethic, then they care too much about what people think of them.

Yes, all 3* prospects work harder than all 5* prospects because they have something to prove. Come on, man.

*3 usually means still an elite but missing something:

Elite size but needs to work on play and fundamentals

Elite player but not elite size/speed

A 5-star you can usually project him to the NFL, a 3-star has questions. Remember, we're spoiled in the SEC. Half of the colleges in D-1 are composed of 90% 2-stars.

I saw two five stars in the 4A state championship last night.

One didn't make good decisions and the other didn't take losing very well.

Now we wait patiently, for the "tyrann Mathieu was a 2* who turned into a Heisman finalist"

Ask Michigan State how 1-3*s have been treating them.

Two conference championships and one Rose Bowl in the last 20+ years?

Well they've been playing second fiddle to Michigan minus the last 5 years, so somethings working with the 5* thing.

The teams that consistently have the best recruiting classes are usually competing and at the Top.
Of course, we will always have an exceptional 3 * and then a 5 * bust.

Too many variables to generalize rankings of athletes. There are plenty of physically gifted 5* athletes that bust their arses more than everyone else.

This. I get the Jacob Hester thing, but that's very rare as is the 5* bust.

* ratings are about potential. A guy that's a 5* has extremely high potential to be a stud in college, and likely will play in the NFL. A 3* has potential to be a solid contributor in college, and with hard work and improvement in some aspect he's missing on, he'll be able to progress and maybe play in the NFL.

Bottom line, do the homework and you'll see the teams that finish higher in recruiting generally produce the best results. LSU's 2009 class is the main reason for the 2011 team's success. Alabama has won 3 of 4 NCs based on their recruiting successes in that same time frame.

It's really that simple.

Potential and star ratings are also based on player exposure. Some for what ever reason are under the radar.

Absolutely. Tyrann Mathieu went from a 2* to a 4* based on one camp and the offers he got afterwords. Why not a 5*? Missing something according to the * givers. Height? Speed? Maybe. Physically, he was a solid 3*. But once he dominated that Tennessee camp, he got the 4*. Prior to that, he was extremely under exposed, as you pointed out.
