Just texted my son. He was told he made 2nd team. Kind of a shame, considering he had better stats for the year than another U-High player at the same position that made All-State. Both should have been First Team, but oh well. Always next year.

I'm not sure how each district's coaches handle the all-district team, but if it were me voting, I would make up a team of players I'd want to coach from all the other teams in the district, and that would be my ballot.

Know the feeling. Had situations where one player for Dunham got 2nd team for a position he didn't even play (Nyle Johnson, you may remember him ). He was there as a consolation for something else (this was 2 years ago). Sadly, that's how it works.

Yeah, we remember Nyle. Both my boys played with him. Hated he left. Yeah, not sure how it works, but obviously preseason hype certainly helps.

I think he was a pretty underrated player. He showed up at the U High/Dunham game this year. Shame he couldn't make the grades to stay at SMU.

Regardless of what "some principals want", under the current guidelines it is NOT a private school. U-High must follow the same eligibility rules as any other public school. But, even tho' you're wrong, thanks for your input all the same!

Yeah, our kids sure wish they didn't have the public school 94-100 "A" grading scale that was implemented last year.

Oauron, If Nyle had been taller, he'd have had schools beating down the door. He was really fast, and very physical for his size.

Wildman, might have to get with you sometime and see if I can get my kid in some of the summer camps Garrett got in last year. That, and a lot of hard work obviously paid off this year. He had a good season.

sir you are wrong...

Uhigh has kids from as far away as pointe coupee parish..

how many public schools have kids from 40 miles away?

Uhigh does not take all kids or even all qualified kids from a set attendance zone such as EBR public schools.

it is very much so more considered like a private school than a public school.

Not to mention kids from livingston parish as well....

and the way that many public school principals want to classify schools is any school with selective admission - will be considered private...

So true. If the old coach would put him at RB at the start of the season rather than have him at WR in the Wing T, they would have won a lot more games.

It is basically private... and the recruiting going on there is getting ridiculous. I went there for 13 years and when mahaffey came there was this "random" flood of athletic black kids. Anyone who thinks Uhigh doesn't recruit is retarded... I saw it first hand.

How many public schools charge $5,000 and require references and an interview just to get in?

Glad you put "random" in quotes. Like when the girls starting basketball team was made up of kids off Smacker Miles' AAU team. All that said, people can say what they want, it is classified as a public school. Maybe call it a limited enrollment public school. Private schools aren't the only ones that recruit, it's just that some are more open about it.

I love all of the recruiting experts out there. For the price UHS is arguably the best school in baton rouge. They are legally in Louisiana considered a public school. Believe it or not, there are parents with athletic kids that apply to UHigh. Many of these kids live in the UHS district. Every "selected enrollment" school in Baton Rouge tries to get athletic kids. One of our district rivals actually had the parents of a kid go through a fake divorce so that he could be eligible to play baseball without sitting out last year. Someone that runs a elementary football league hounded me constantly about moving my kids to his kids school. Guess what, we have been in 2a where you are forced to compete with Evangel and Curtis and Calvary in the playoffs. I hope a whole bunch of athletic kids apply this year cause we gonna need them for 3a.

You'll be competing against largely similar competition with the exception of Parkview in your district. Most 3a schools still only have around 40-50 kids on the team. (then you have the big football schools that get over 80 easily).

Brusly was far better than any team in our district this year. Come playoff time, there will be 10 or so teams of equal or better ability as oppossed to 3 this year.

You and I both know the fake divorce was by far the slightest rule breaking that went on there.........

For the record I never accused uhigh of recruiting.... What I said was under what most public principals want - they are private - select enrollment or quasi public...

Like I have said many times the problems stem from 2 schools. And one district...

And right their will be about 10 aaa teams capable of winning...

Patterson, Amite, independence and loranger might be better without brazil.....Livonia and of course brusly...

And that's just e public schools......

And not every great athlete applying to U-High gets in. Ask Tylor Harris. And he had really high grades and test scores at Episcopal. And wanted to transfer to U-High. He and Tim would have made a great pair of DE's last year. Of course, the 2 we had this year weren't bad.
