28 Rule

Okay, I have tried researching this but I got nothing… here we go. If the SEC limits the teams to only sign 28 recruits, how many can non SEC teams sign? If it is more doesn’t that handicap the SEC teams? With the situation at Tenn and commitments rethinking their commitment there, doesn’t the 28 rule cause SEC talent to leave the conference?

28 x 4 = 112 that's still more than the 85 schollies allotted by the NCAA. I'd say no handicapping. Historically, SEC schools sign more than any other conferences anyway. You can thank Ole Miss for the cap. 35 kids signed last year raised a lot of eyebrows.

True, but I think Bama kicked this thing off in or around 2008 when they signed 32.

I don't think gross over-signing is a nation wide problem. I don't see it as a handicap because that number still requires a significant amount of attrition over time.

You only get 25 schollorships a year to give out. OOC, you can have 150 kids sign, but can still only give out 25 schollys. Ole Miss was pretty ridiculous last year with 35.

Actually Ole Miss had 37 last year which is even more ridiculous.

They should have left the rule alone, but penalized schools that signed players that later don't enroll, yet made their grades.

NCAA : hmm - this makes sense - let's make sure that the committee rejects this and make a rule with a hard number in it so that we can add it to our other knee jerk, half assed rules.
