Why would you move a 4* DT recruit to FB? Like they did with J.C. Copeland. Because he might just be suited for the position.

Not the same thing. Copeland was an undersized DT. He's about 5'11 and 270, it would have taken him a couple seasons to see significant playing time at DT. While Melvin Jones will at the very least be in the 2 deep for MLB next year and maybe see some good snaps there this year. He's also 6'2 245 and is extremely fast and athletic for his size. His NFL potential is very high at LB, if not MLB maybe OLB or D line. Copeland might be a huge fullback, but not a very big defensive linemen. His NFL potential is greater at FB.

Melvin Jones could get drafted as a LB on measurements alone. Imagine how much of a freak he can be after 2 years with Chavis.

do yall think that we'll still use a scholly in this class for a FB if someone like trey granier makes the switch to FB?

They also could just use walk-ons.

If, could, should, maybe, possibly...

I'm pretty confident in jones playing LB. but we're also picking up Clifton Garrett (likely). Along with a bunch of other LBs that we recently picked up. All we're saying is that IF by any chance jones doesn't start over all those guys, I'd like to utilize that talent.

If the coaches feel he's a Better fit at another position I trust them with that. This is all speculation at this point.

True, but from the practice report he took snaps all over the offense, not just at FB, and when he was there it was more about putting the ball in his hands. He was a beast QB in high school. I can see him being a good power runningback. His playing style is similar to Derrick Henry.

My point is that fulltime fullbacks block the vast majority of the time. Melvin Jones is better with the ball in his hands. He'll take snaps on offense, but a permanent move to fullback is unlikely, and the coaches give players the final choice.

I'd be surprised if we don't offer a fullback. Copeland and Neighbors are seniors. But we may move some guys from defense. Lamar Louis is a guy that I think could thrive on offense, but Chavis may want to keep him at LB. We are loaded with young talent at LB, and Miles likes to turn defensive guys around to the O (Johnson, Copeland, Clement, etc.). There are a few guys in that LB corps that could make the transition.

Melvin Jones seems like a very intriguing prospect at fullback, Id like to see what he can do there.

ANybody know anything about Jordan Cormier? Juco transfer, seems like a good athlete and interesting prospect coming out of hs a couple years back

Looks like Cam wants a fullback who can do some things out of the backfield, catch, run, block the whole nine. I like it, makes me think of Hester.

With Beckwith being around 240 right now I see him as our Mike of the future. And with CG coming in behind him we are fine at that position

Have to remember this is Cam's offense now,

yea, but its CLM team and he said since the cardinals are using PP as a WR he is going to considering looking at his talent closer to see if he has a dual position player amongst the ranks. ijs

JMHO, If M.J. stays on offense, I can envision him playing plenty this year at FB, with Copeland at Hback, especially on short yardage....both can block and catch...opposing DCs will have their hands full...

Coaches must feel pretty good about signing Garrett and young for the MLB position. Any chance beckwith ends up at MLB? The kid is already almost 245lbs kind of big for a chavis type OLB

Beckwith and jones are identical in size I believe. Beckwith also got looks at FB.

One of 2 things happened. (Or both).

Beckwith looked better at MLB or jones looked better at FB. But they tried both at both.
