rather I asked if anyone had actually considered moving because of conditions. And instead of any serious answers (well a few anyways), I get stupid replies like "well because it's not Georgia"

I'm not really allowed to post in threads like this one anymore, but I'll do it anyway.

I'm one of those that moved away from Louisiana because of the conditions. Weather was a big contributing factor for me, not just hurricanes but also not having any seasons is annoying. But there were many other reasons that contributed to my decision as well besides weather. Put simply, by all objective measures, Louisiana is a pretty miserable place. I understand that people have family and friends there and I know that can be a big pull, but beyond that, there's no reason that can be given that isn't better somewhere else.

But hey, that's just like my opinion, man.

Do you ask people in Florida the same question? What about all the islands? They see as many, if not more, storms than we do.

In the 40+ years my family has been in LA, never have they experienced water inside one of their homes (or even close for that matter). The worst storm damage we have ever had was a four inch hole in my sister and bro-in-laws roof from a limb.

Seriously, how often does NOLA truly flood? While the storm itself can be a hassle, it is also nice to see people pull together during these storms. Nice reminder of why we live in the south and how the spirit of these people is different.

I agree with you for the most part, but the food where you are does not compare.

I live about 70 miles from the coast and I have never seen people act this way about any storm. You could have sworn the sky was falling. The weather right now is a small wind about 12 MPH and not hot... its kinda nice.
I've noticed the same thing. I'm from New Iberia, right on the freaking coast, and I can't remember seeing people freak out so much.

My sister told me that all her friends at LSU were acting like it was the end of the world. I understand being freaked out if you've never been through one, but most of us have gotten used to them over the years.

It's the main pull. It's 99.99% of it. I guess if you are an orphan and have no friends, it would be easy to just pick up and move and not worry about it.

Hugo also messed up the Carolinas. You live on the coast, you are gonna have some risk.

That being said, I love being close to the water and the benefits that it provides.

You do realize that if a hurricane hits Georgia, that house is as good as gone, right?

I'd say the odds on that are in LA's favor.

The odds of a hurricane hitting La. is just as good as Georgia's. Louisiana just has had some bad luck in the last few years.

Before 2005, it was 15 years before a major hurricane hit Louisiana.

You sure do come off as completely ignorant.
