I saw this online and tried it. I’m pretty impressed so far. 1 gal vinegar, 1 cup salt, teaspoon of Dawn to aid sticking to leaves. I’ve used it. On Virg button weed, driveway crack weeds, several others and it seems to knock it out very quickly. We’ll see long term. Very cheap too. Anyone else tried this?

Be careful with the salt if you want shite to grow back.

I just use 1-2 oz of 41% glyphosate per gallon. Works great.

I’ve used it in driveway cracks, but find it is only temporary. Maybe I didn’t use it enough.

I used this on my pavers and the weeds/grass came back shortly afterwards.

I find the weeds come back no matter what I use. I checked and within 24 hours it had turned everything I sprayed yellow or totally withered it to nothing. Even Virginia Buttonweed. Cost per 2 gallon sprayer full is about $7.

Gotcha on the salt. Mainly using on areas like driveways and paver areas where I don’t want anything to grow back. I’m not using it on the grass only areas for now.

Normal vinegar is diluted to 5%. So you may as well use it full strength. You can buy vinegar that’s 40-75%, maybe more IdK. It’s just a natural acid, so really nothing wrong with it.

Does anyone know if this works on the Superman of weeds aka dallisgrass?

A lot of herbicides are sodium based. If you use straight salt it is going to kill everything. You’re better off going with tested methods.

I bought a weed torch today. That was nice and easy.

I saw that too but at around $6 or $7 a gallon I don't know how that is cheaper than a $30 bottle of concentrated killer that will go for more than 5 uses.

Cool that it works though.

Did not know this was a thing. Now I want one.

I assume you just spot torch areas away from anything you actually want to grow. Would be curious how long until whatever you torch grows back.

Weed torches are as fun as they sound, but unfortunately not particularly effective (personal experience).

They'll kill the tops but not the roots, so the new growth is stronger with pre-built roots.

Thinking "just burn them longer" is a legitimate idea, apart from the large flakes of concrete popping off. Again, experience.

I have the same experience here. Burn them but they come back.

Perhaps this depends on your landscape type. I have xeriscape, so I was able to torch for awhile. After a couple of days, I really have not noticed any new sprouting.

I am pretty convinced that NOTHING really works on that stuff. You can kill it for a season and deal with the brown spot for a month or so and then it shows up somewhere else a few months later or at best, the next spring. It's like anthills. You don't really get rid of it, you just make it relocate.

I have had good luck with Celsius. It took 2 treatments 6 weeks apart. As far as the other post stating it relocates. He is right but when you cut crass, the dallisgrass this time of year has the long chutes that hold the seed pods. If you don't pull those before you cut, they will spread when the mower cuts them. Best to treat in the spring before the seed pods start showing up.
