I asked my pool builder two summers ago and again last summer to order me a chiller. He has failed to do so, and now refuses to answer my texts. F him. Does anyone have a trusted person in the Lafayette area who can order and install a chiller for me? Thanks.

Just get some fountains which hook up to your filter/pump jets. Run it overnight, makes all the difference in the world on hot days.

Acadiana Pools. I went to school with the owner and know him personally. They did our pool 22 months ago and installed a chiller/heater. Ask for Jude and tell him Jim from Sunset recommended them.

I was quoted $3,200 by the guy that didn’t order it.

What temperature differential can it achieve? I was always under the impression that any cooling for a pool was either insanely expensive or didn't really provide more than a couple of degrees of cooling.

Started doing this last year and it took about a week to see a big difference in pool temp during the day.

You’ve been misled. I live in an extremely hot climate and can cool my pool from 100+ degrees down to below 85 degrees in about 36 hours. It costs the same as running an AC unit. In heat mode, same thing.

Pretty sure there are two main kinds. There's a heatpump style that looks like an air conditioner. That moves heat both directions depending on your settings. Dumps pool heat or adds heat to the pool.

Then, theres an evaporative cooler style that cools the water with a fan as it percolates down through the body.

Heat Pump style will make the water nice and cold.
Evaporative has a limit due to our humidity that I suspect gets into the wet bulb temperature of the air.

I hung a big triangle sunshade over a chunk of my pool and added 1 of those return jet fountains. It doesn't work miracles but my pool was at least 5 degrees cooler last summer than my buddy down the street. (All for $150 mostly in stainless steel cable and parts)

If we didn’t have a chiller last year we wouldn’t have been able to swim during the heat wave that we had all summer. We have a glacier brand 30k gallon chiller. We run it only at night and it lowers pool temps by 10 + degrees. We get full sun almost all day. I think there are redneck options but I’m not gonna have PVC fountains sticking out of my brand new expensive arse pool. We had the chiller installed about a week after we filled it and it was around 3500, I think.

This is exactly what I am thinking. I just need someone reputable to do it for me.

Try calling glacier if the fan type is what you were wanting. They’re out of Houston area, I think. They can tell you who in Lafayette is buying and installing. Our guy was out of Baton Rouge, but we are in youngsville. We have been satisfied with the type of chiller we have and we already had a gas heater so it made sense for us.

I never realized how big those Glacier chillers were.

It’s huge. Thankfully we tripled our equipment pad area before the build so things weren’t cramped. The 30k gallon one is taller.

Yes, mine is the heat pump style that does both chilling and heating. You’re correct.

I wanted one when I built my pool until I saw the size of them, they’re loud and require a pad larger than an AC unit

I highly recommend the heat pump! Stretches the season on both ends.
It takes around 2-3 days to get mine from 60s to 88 to swim during the cooler months

Very efficient cost wise …only 6-7$ a day to run it

Mine drops the temp 4-6 degrees overnight. Works very well.
